Barnes leaving Vols?

They are the basketball version of their football brother up the road at SC. All the tradition in the world but make some head scratcher hires. Like why did SC hire Kiffin, Drunk Sark, and so far Helton looks like a meh hire. When UCLA makes a good hire like Howland it's some gray areas like SC had with Carroll. With all that tradition and prep talent at their disposal they struggle to find a champion caliber hire that doesn't leave with dark clouds.

Don't forget about Jim Harrick while he was at UCLA.

I called it earlier but I didn’t think a mainstream sports journalist covering the Vol beat would go there.

It's just them trying to convince themselves, it's obvious to the rest of us that UCLA could have had Barnes if they really wanted. A coach completely happy with their current situation wouldn't have to weigh the options so publicly. It hurts recruiting. He didn't care because he was going to take the job.

Key difference is Tennessee would have matched the money, Barnes essentially said UCLA was the better job.
