I have often wondered how things might have been different had Nixon stood down and allowed China to be Nuked? There's about 15,000 names on that wall in DC that wouldn't be there. Maybe more. Coal, I disagree with. Natural gas is even more plentiful, cheaper (less than$2/mcf) and much, much cleaner and safer. That is the reason for it’s decline. It’s also the main reason the US has reduced its carbon emissions to the lowest level in 25 years. Sorry, but coal is a dying industry.
You’re also wrong about fracking. Most of our reserves are on private lands. And we have enough to satisfy our needs for the foreseeable future. In fact, we have so much now that we are exporting it. And we are allowed to drill on federal lands. The BLM handles that. Not to mention all offshore drilling is in federal waters.
It is only in very recent years that Natural Gas became plentiful and cheap. All due to fracking. We can give Private Enterprise, the right to own private property and capitalism as the key ingredients to allowing us this new energy bounty. ( even if democrats would prevent it all if they only could get around that pesky Constitution).
Actually, we’ve always had plenty of natural gas, but yes, it’s even more plentiful today. And fracking has been around for decades. And I agree with your take on private enterprise and capitalism, but it must always be balanced with environmental concerns. They aren’t mutually exclusive.
