According to my research, 99.99999% of criminals prefer unarmed victims.
This could have been a story about me, or ANY of my friends...however none of us would have missed...and my 150lb Rottie would have eaten them alive. Those are the only differences. Oh...I would not have dropped my gun, either

The difference between a Free Florida, and Socialist New York in action...

IT’S OFFICIAL!

Florida Republicans now outnumber Democrats in voter registrations by over 200,000 – and there are no signs of slowing down!

In fact, thanks to the leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis, Republicans have beaten Democrats in new registrants for 23 consecutive months, as well as amongst voters who have switched parties and become Republicans.

It’s clear: Freedom is WINNING in Florida.

Thanks to supporters like you and Republicans across the Sunshine State, it’s becoming more difficult for the Democrats to infiltrate Governor DeSantis’s firewall of freedom.

America has long been seen as a shining city on a hill – a beacon of freedom for all the world to see. Since the pandemic lockdowns started, freedom has, undoubtedly, been called into question in blue states across the country.

But not in Florida.

Governor DeSantis has ensured the Florida dream is alive and well.

If you want to live in a place with unlimited opportunity, safe communities to raise a family, a world-class public education system, a strong and thriving environment, and a strong economy that promotes small businessesthen Florida is the place for you.

Thanks to Governor DeSantis’s policies, Florida is the beachhead of freedom.

Governor DeSantis enacts commonsense policies that protect the freedom of Floridians by letting you make your own decisions.

In many of the gun control threads...I stated EVERYONE carries here...an MOST have nice AR's and/or AK type home defense weapons! LOL Just wish the guy would have been a better shot
IMO, this is why a shotgun and a dog are better for home protection. You just need to be directionally correct. AR/AKs look cool and are fun to shoot, but a lot of people are not proficient enough to be accurate in that kind of situation.

Either way, good for him and the sheriff.

No issue, at all, with individuals having individual fire arms in their homes to protect themselves.

While the right dog certainly has it's place in security, I'm not going to 'depend' on one for mine.
You display a vast ignorance about fire arms.

A stock hunters shotgun won't spread to hit the entire wall from across the room, unless you have one sawed off (illegal) to a 10" barrel. And with a 10" sawed off shotgun, you better be muscle-bound strong to control the blast/kick that it produces. The spread at 20' would still not cover the entire wall, but it would be good enough for your directionally correct claim. With a standard barrel shotgun and #1 buckshot, the spread won't be more than 3-4" so only very slightly better than a rifle or pistol.

And your average shotgun doesn't have a 10-20 round magazine to feed it, you have to stop to reload.
An inexpensive 12 gauge Mossberg pump shotgun with a short stock pistol grip is a decent gun for home protections, but it's not my first choice, and you'd damn well better practice with it and understand which ammo to use for each intended application.

What anyone needs for home defense is a firearm that they practice with and can control, well enough to hit a human sized target from 20 feet. I and my friends/associates can do that with any gun we own.

I didn’t say anything about the spread covering an entire wall. Why on earth would I want the 16 pellets in #1 buckshot spread across an entire wall? That‘s way too big of a spread. And the 3 inch spread is significantly better that the 1/4 in diameter of a 5.56 bullet. That’s like comparing a hockey puck to a dime.

A pump action shotgun is very reliable and relatively fast. It’s a great home defense option. And yes you are correct that proficiency is the key to whatever weapon you choose.

"You just need to be directionally correct."

That's where you were wrong. Direction-ally correct is not good enough with any gun, and especially not in close combat.

Many believe that you don't need to be accurate with your aim with a shotgun, which is true only in Hollywood....

Ok. Maybe directional correct is a poor choice of words. But the chances of hitting someone are better with a shotgun than an AR, especially when someone is not very proficient. You don’t need to be quite as accurate.

The guy in article is the perfect example. First he drops is handgun, then hits one of the three intruders with a non lethal shot to the head. With a shotgun, he probably at least turns part of that guys head into hamburger.

The hell with a pump shotgun. I prefer a short barreled semi-automatic with the plug removed. ;) I agree with your assessment, even if you miss small the invader is going to crap his pants and run.:D

If you break into my house, I'm not going to scare you with any gun, I'm gonna double tap center mass you with a .45 ACP. --- "Aim small, miss small...."

And a shotgun only needs a plug for hunting, and even then not always, depending on the animal being hunted and which state you're in.

If I just wanted to scare someone that's unarmed off my property, then I might use the 12 Gauge with the 'Flash-Bang' rounds to get them moving...
