The Grantham defense got 6 sacks vs FAU, but that's not really surprising to the iG....
SEC Co-Def PoW DT/SDE Carter got 3 of those sacks.
While Soph DT Dexter grabbed 2 fumble recoveries.

Florida’s 126 sacks since Grantham's debut 2018 season ranks 1st in the SEC and 3rd nationally.
That is trailing only #1 Clemson (148) and #2 Pittsburgh (134).

The Gators 2 fumble recoveries against FAU raised Florida’s total to 67 takeaways since 2018.
That ranks 3rd in the SEC and T-5th nationally.

The Grantham defense was doing silly mess (Grantham's play designs) that will get our defense killed against a team like Bama. Couldn't believe a couple of set ups he used. If he tries that against the better teams we will have their RBs running clear in the open field hoping the DBs are up to the task of tackling them. That didn't work too well last season in some losses.

FAUs starting right tackle was a 3rd stringer for fsu.... have you seen our line play? I would be really worried if UF didn't abuse him.

The most 3rd and longs converted against UF I've ever seen in the last 3, going on 4, seasons. And UF's defense hasn't been this horrid back in '79(0-10-1) or against Herschel Walker. We'll see how many 3rd and Grantham's are converted against a garbage team like USF.

First off neither one of them are P5 teams. Second of all FAU went 5-4 last year. They are hardly one of the worst teams in D1. You have teams like UCONN, Akron, UMASS, UL Monroe that are much worse and not even sure they won any games last year.

Exactly. Not a perfect game by any means but much, much better than last year. That was maybe the worst defense I’ve ever seen, at least from a team ranked in the top 10 for a lot of the season.

We didn't play any cupcakes last year except Vandy later in the season. I think we have to wait to see if this defense is much better than last season

Grantham sure made Vandy look like we weren't playing a cupcake team.

To be fair, last year FAU would have scored on us pretty early. I think they would give vandy a run and very likely beat them. But yeah, it’s only one game and not the toughest opponent we’ll face, but already we have guys at least in the right position in the secondary. They might not make the play, and we might have issues with how much cushion grantham plays, but at least it looks like there is buy in and effort.

Honestly with as much complaining as we have done about FAU, I am reallly happy with the fact that even despite the obvious mistakes, There was never a point where I felt like they were a threat to win or even give us a game. I really though they would hang with us for a quarter or so, and maybe still have a heartbeat at the half, but I never had the feeling like it was anything but a scrimmage and we had zero chance to lose. That IS an improvement from the days when e. Carolina and Miami (oh) gave us all we could handle. And I’m not sure FAU is that much of a cupcake, tbh. I think they would definitely beat some decent teams.

This week will be a cupcake though.

Dan is a complete idiot HC when it comes to defense.
He should have never hired Todd at MsSt.
He should have never rehired him and brought him to UF.
He should have never given him a raise, just because his defense finished in the Top 10 in the nation his 1st 2 years as UF's DC.
And he certainly should have fired that chump after that brutal scamdemic season.

Prolly have to fire Dan, just for a chance to hire a decent DC......

I would rather Dan make these changes and not feel like he is letting Jones down by telling him just to wait for his time all these years. If he isnt the better QB he shouldnt be starting. I do think Grantham will be gone before next season if the defense isn't close to being up to par this season.
