2024-25 Basketball,,, all things considered...

In most years I would agree with you. This year I don't. The SEC is DEEP. Miss. St., Arkansas, Vandy & Georgia all have 8-10 records and will ALL get in. Oklahoma and Texas have 6-12 records and 1 of them is getting in, maybe both. Let's talk Sunday night or Monday morning and see who's right.
I'm here to tell you that you were right about the 13 teams with Texas yet to play an in game. Maybe it's just me in the minority, but Georgia, Texas and Oklahoma are probably another year away from deserving a spot in the big dance.

Oklahoma did beat AZ, Louisville and Michigan out of conference though where they were undefeated before SEC play.

Great win. This team can win in all kinds of ways and in all kinds of circumstances. Today the refs called it tight and we won by attrition while making 25-28 free throws. We're deeper with quality talent than any team we'll face. So make it a foul fest, refs. We'll win. Let the game be physcial and don't call many fouls. Ok, we'll win that way, too. This team is locked in and together. They are going to be hard to beat in the NCAA tournament. However, it's extremely difficult to win 6 straight vs. increasingly better talent. But this is the best team we've had since our national title teams. No doubt about that.
Even the great 2014 team which had great character guys and super hustlers didn’t have this kind of talent and depth.

How the he!! I understand you played a tough out of conference schedule but damn you have to WIN some of those games.
One quad 1 win? West Virginia got hosed.
I can only guess the UNC haters didn't want Hubert Davis to get canned and steal either Nate Oats, Chris Beard or perhaps give Will Wade another shot at top tier school like UNC.

Look for Magic Mike White to take out Gonzaga and then Houston to begin his tournament run with the leghumpers.
You still beating on that dead horse with your feveredbrains??? (rhetorical)
But hey, I thought the sports geniuis types said UGly would be lucky to make the NIT... (crickets)
As for me, since they are not in the West with the Gators, I don't really care what they do...
Moving right along from the dead horse beaters....

Florida is the new favorite to win it all after winning the conference tournament and four of the top six betting favorites are SEC schools.

I see UConn was ranked #3 to start this season. Hopefully that is just the championship effect on the polls and they aren't capable of going to another level for this tournament.

Reading some articles now on UConn it sounds like they have big issues in their guard play unlike the last 2 seasons. So maybe they aren't capable of turning things up to another level.

Of the 3, I think Oklahoma was the most deserving because the of really tough non conference schedule. I don't like Georgia or Texas winning at anything, so wish they had been left out.

SEC to Earn $26M With Record 14 Men’s NCAA Tournament Bids

I remember a time when the only SEC team making money was Kentucky. Times sure have changed. Basketball is a money maker these days.

Nice read but IMO each of these teams will have to play their A+++ game to beat the Gators. Yes St Johns has good guards but so do our Gators. And we have the depth.

Our front court is big but mobile too. They can run the floor and pass as well as most guards. Bottom line, Florida has a solid starting 5 and when one goes out the replacement is solid too.

Let's win this thing.

The UF team is fully aware of Virginia becoming the the very first 1 seed to lose to a 16 seed, with Purdue being the second, led by Zach Edy.

I doubt they have an issue with Norfolk State but I remember our Final Four team was tied in that 1994 game with # 14 seed James Madison with the game almost over. We needed OT to beat Butler in our 2000 Final Four season but they were a #12 seed so it wouldn't have been a big upset I guess.

For almost every team that wins the NCAA tournament, there is 1 game where the opponent plays above their heads and comes close to beating the better team. Winning 6 in a row against increasingly difficult competition is really hard. It not only takes a lot of talent, but takes some degree of luck as well. Hopefully the Gators can navigate the field and get it done.

I remember in 94 when UF was in a deadlock vs JMU with the score under 20 at halftime. In 2000, UF had the biggest target on their backs and every team with the exception of UCLA and pOSU competed well vs UF. Well, JSU did hang with UF for most of the 1st half.
Nobody said repeating would be easy but had all the 04's returned for their final season, no team would have come close.

I hope you're right about Norfolk State, they look like they can match well vs UF.

How do they match up? I haven't really looked at their numbers or players. I just know these lower conference teams like this can sometimes start raining 3s on you in the tournament.

The biggest favorites in the first round games are:
Houston -28.5
Florida -27.5
Alabama -20.5
Tennessee -19.5
Michigan St. -18.5
St. Johns -17.5

Odds are showing yet for Duke & Auburn because they play winners of play-in games, so their opponents aren't known yet.

Looking at some metrics of national champions in recent years these are the teams that the champion is likely to come from if a 1 seed doesn't win the tournament:

TX Tech
Gonzaga
Bama
TN

It would be tough if Tennessee won it all. Holding baseball and basketball championships simultaneously. Heaven help us.
