2023 Football Recruiting Classs

(SI) If the Florida Gators are able to land QB Jaden Rashada, what would that mean for the future of football, recruiting and the program as a whole?

(iG) He would be an excellent understudy backup QB for Max Brown next season.
I don't know if he would be an aid to the 2023 class recruiting or not?
As to the future, that remains to be seen for either Max or Jaden.
(Kitna is still a possibility, Miller is a not-so-much imo)

"Serving as a transcendent talent (BS) at the most crucial position in football, #7 QBpp Jaden Rashada 6-3.5 185 **** (247 composite) gives Billy Napier and the new Gators staff their first opportunity to expedite the full program reconstruction needed to escape the constant cycle of mediocrity over the last decade." (SI)

Sorry SI, but no, the 1st opportunity would be this year's new QBdt, Max Brown imo.
And to play in the SEC, Jaden would need to put on about 30 pounds of the right kind of muscle, to get up to at least 215. And the same goes for (6-3 200) Max, add 15 Lbs. (iG)

(SI) "(UF) Battling against the likes of Texas A&M, LSU, Ole Miss, Miami and Cal for his services."
If the iG was guessing his choice order, it would be: Cal-aTm-Miss-LSU-UF-Mia.
IF his family would move to Florida, then UF/Mia become better choices.

Stat comparisons of their Jr seasons:
(the twit at SI claims that Max is a project, while Jaden is ready to go, WTF?)

#96 Max Brown 6-3 200 *** - 2020 Jr season - QBR 133.7
P - 88 of 121, 72.7% for 1,666 yds, 18.9 yds/rec, 27 TD, 6 Int
R - 154 for 992 yds, 6.4 ypc, 13 TD, 1 LPF
His 'joke' rating imo, reflects the fact that he's not a camper.

#7 QBpp Jaden Rashada 6-3.5 185 **** - 2021 Jr season
P - 146 of 256, 57.0% for 2,220 yds, 15.2 yds/rec, 27 TD, 5 Int
R - 25 for 193 yds, 7.7 ypc 1 TD
A regular camper gets the stars and position rating.
(add 20 Lbs and the iG would put him at the same size & talent level as 6-4 205 Kitna)

Make the Max/Jaden eye-ball comparisons for yourself.

None sio far, but in the 2023 Class, they need 3-4 LB'ers to replace Miller-Burney-Cox & maybe Black or Reese.
But any that claim that the 2022 Gators are lacking either quality or depth at LB, need to consult this roster...

Didn't pay attention to them a lot during the spring game but Burney was confused many times he was out there these past years. Hope someone is good enough to start over him.

Edit: I see Burney was a starter according to the spring game. Surprised Black or Wingo hasn't passed him as of now.

Burney is an excellent athlete. I think either coaching or coaching scheme had him screwed up.

Came off as bad instincts to me sometimes though others would be lost also with Grantham's defense but I guess we will see if he is the starter this season.

Burney isn’t physical enough or instinctual enough to play LBer at an SEC level. Good athlete but he doesn’t make any plays.

Fall practice will be for sorting out the starters and the rotation depth, so I'll wait until then before writing Burney off. And even if he's not the starter, he can still provide decent depth in the rotation.

JMOHO, but Spring is way too early to write anyone off, due to the new coaches and a new system being put in, especially for the defense that was trying not to injury anyone on the offense. As always, we'll see....

I'm again calling BS on the dog-pokers important recruiting service rankings.
In broad general they are okay, but in specifics, they miss on recruits often.

A highlighting factor, and potentially the biggest win of the 2023 class to date, has come in the form of missing out on recruits that would have been mistakes if they had committed to UF. It's very good to have them go elsewhere, instead of coming to the Ville to mess up the Gator program. One of the biggest problems in recruiting is signing up gatorbait, instead of real, solid, GATORS...

So, the iG would like to thank those recruits that have chosen to go elsewhere.
😘

And an even bigger thanks goes out to the real Gators that have committed to UF. May this trend continue until the 2023 class is filled with winners that want to be here.

Bartram Trail (Fla.) CB/STAR Sharif Denson's 5-11 170 has committed to the Gators. Announcing his pledge on Monday, the Florida native elected to stay home to continue his football career, fulfilling his dream of making it to the collegiate level and remaining in the state. His commitment has continued to establish a firm foundation for DB-U's secondary moving into the future.

Secondary coaches Corey Raymond and Patrick Toney intend to continue applying pressure in hopes of obtaining other in-state targets like Cormani McClain and Ja'Keem Jackson to pair alongside the St. Johns County prospect in the 2023 cycle. So choose well gentlemen, because your future depends on it.

To the recent 3-star #78 OT that de-committed, thank you for that, and AMF....

Let me ask you this - how many of the top 100 nationally ranked players from Florida do you think we end up landing in this class?

You think we would actually pay McClain the $ amount he will be looking for when he has websites listing his NIL value at 300k? I might be wrong but not sure they would want to spend money like that on an unproven DB especially with the ripple effect it may cause with other DBs on the roster. Maybe I am wrong and we are going to kick it up big time to join the biggest players there but I doubt it.

Ohio State looks to be raiding the state of Florida big time with how many top Florida recruits they are signing. I am sure the coach must have got most of the 13 million dollars he told the boosters he needed for NIL to keep the roster at the same level.

feveredbrains, I wouldn't engage in any bidding war with anyone over recruits.
I'm totally against NIL. I believe that college football has been given a knife sharp enough to cut their own throat with, and many seem only to happy to get started.

I'd continue to sell the school, the community, and the vast Gator network.
If those outside of the UAA/UF want to buy a UF players endorsement, then I'd let the free market decide who and how much, as I believe it was intended to be.

Sorry but you have to play the game some to get these top 100-150 ranked recruits or you will only have a chance to beat Georgia with a crazy good QB probably as they are playing that game. You need to be smart about it but you have to target some players. I am glad we didn't give Rashada all that money though as it would be way overpaying imo.

That's the difference between me and some others.
Nothing but winning matters when you're getting paid at a Pro job.

Socialist-U Presidents have now sold out to NO principles, NO morals, naked GREED, something that the NFL specializes in...

Witnessing the end of amateur sports at the college level, it's a sad day imo....

The STUDENT/athlete is no more.

I can't really see any need for football players to attend classes, it's just a waste of practice time.
If you're now paying for play, are you going to bench a millionaire over his class grades? (hah)

They'd fire the chump podling professor first....

Now the college degrees of phootball players are about as dependable as damp toilet paper....

While this may be new to some schools/teams, it's really old hat to the Florida Gators....

"The running back position has undergone a significant change as modern football has remodeled itself into a pass-oriented game. Calling for the backfield to be more versatile than ever as they serve in a complementary role to the air attack, football is arguably growing dependent on a running back by committee system for teams to succeed." --
BRANDON CARROLL - SI

Before there was an Emmitt Smith, or Errict Rhett, or Fred Taylor, there was Anderson/Williams/Hampton in the same backfield.

After them, there was:
Tebow, Harvin, Rainey, Demps, Moody, Moore.
Then Burton, Gillislee, Jones, Brown.
Then Perine, Scarlett, Davis, Pierce.
And so on and so ....

There's nothing wrong with a Smith, or a Rhett, or a Taylor, but having a solid RB committee has always been the better way to go in the ole instaGATOR's opinion.

The Gators have long been known as an 'air it out' program, and they have been, but never forget the long line of RB's, and RB's by committee that Florida has produced through the years.

Many journalists and commentators, even some Gator fans, don't seem to realize that every RB that's been a full time starter at UF, has at least gotten their shot on an NFL team after they have finished their running days at UF...
>>> An important note to the 2023 Recruits....

For 2022 it's: QB-dt Richardson, Lingard, Wright, Johnson, and Etienne, with PWO Eddie Battle recently added, and with more to come as we move forward with the new staff.

Just think if you have an all downs type RB he should be getting the clear majority of snaps if he is the better RB short of garbage time in games. Having said that not sure if a Wright or Johnson (or possibly even Lingard) can distance themselves that much from the 2nd string.

Recruiting is going very well so far. Hopefully be even better after this weekend. It may not be an “elite” class but it will be ranked pretty high and is going to be filled with tons of Blue Chippers and even more importantly kids from the state of Florida. We haven’t recruited the state or the SE this good since Meyer regime. I’ve always been about loading up on high quality Florida kids. For one they are typically very good and for two they aren’t as quick to transfer or run off.

At this point the only thing that worries me OL. Not that I don't like the two commits we have but the last decade of Florida football has shown what a problem it is if you don't get 3-4 lineman each class. Especially if we're going to be more of a trenches team than an air it out team.

I'll still never understand how Muschamp couldn't pull in more offensive lineman. Wasn't it something like 4 OL in 3 years? How in the world can you let that happen when you want to ground and pound?

Agree. Would love to see 1 more linebacker and 2 more OL...but very happy thus far.

It hurts that we lost out on 3 top targeted offensive linemen - one from Orange Park who committed to FSU, one from Orlando who's going to Texas and the other from Bradenton IMG who committed to Miami. From what I've read, we have a decent chance at this OL. And we're still in the running for this guy out of New Orleans.

Gator Recruiting continues to be red hot!

“The old adage — plan your work and work your plan,” Napier said during his press conference on Monday. “We talked about that early on. We’re going to plan our work. Work our plan. We’re going to be diligent. Be consistent.”

And I hope Napier adds in my favorite old Military adage to that old and useful adage. The 7 Military P's:

"Prior-Proper-Planning--Prevents-Piss-Poor-Performance"

In the military's case, it greatly reduces the number of friendly casualties....
