Be interesting to see if we stick with Sproat for game 1. Waldrep has been our best starter. Sproat is good but you can count on him giving up 3-4 runs at some point.

Sproat will be our Game 1 starter. He was the 1st game starter in all our 3-game series this year and that's not going to change.

Pitching was outstanding last weekend. Lots of options if any of the starters get into trouble. Need to bats to carry the momentum from last two games.

Weather looking iffy for the Gators’ Super Regional

Ocala or anybody else who knows NCAA Rules

Another site claims
"Friday, Saturday, and Sunday all have thunderstorms in their forecast. Not just rain, but a little bit of lighting too.

Tonight there’s between a 70% and 60% chance of rain, but as long as there’s lighting in the area the teams will have to wait and see if it leaves."

Assume severe rain & lightning.
Can the game be called off entirely
or
if a delay - what is the latest time they can start a game ?

They had a 10:45 pm first pitch in the regionals following a weather delay.

I would rather just play this series straight but I think weather delays may actually favor us. Our pitching is deeper.

Hate to think what time it ended; what if it goes to extra innings ?
LOL

Brad,

Many thanks !

Don't know if true - probably depends on a number of factors - but I have always thought that pitching a few innings then getting hit with a weather delay & going back out puts additional strain on a pitcher's arm.

Even worse if you have multiple lightning delays - warm up pitches may not show up in official pitch count, but they take a toll on pitcher's arm.

Afternoon and evening thunder showers are normal and expected this time of year here.

They should schedule these games for 10:00 AM, not 3>6 PM... Dumazzes..... 🙄

They just do what TV (ESPN/Disney) says. They pretty much own college sports.

Yeah I think the general rule is that, once a pitcher is warm, if they have to shut down for any length of time that’s it for the day.

Speaking of pitching, did anyone hear the story during regionals that one of the announcers told where Neely, who was a huge recruit and pitched well mid-week last year as a frosh, was slated to be the Sunday starter this year. But then it became clear that Cags was going to pitch and hit and Sully asked Neely to pitch out of the ‘pen because he said they couldn’t pitch cags out of the Pen and hit (I guess because of warmups?). And Neely was bent about it but Sully told him we need this bat. So Neely accepted it and won the closer job and basically was the best closer in the SEC. Awesome team-first attitude.

Brad,

makes sense - once your arm & shoulder muscles & rotator cuff get Warm & stretched & then go cold again, trying to warm back up & regain the flexibility not good.

Don't know if Gators do this, but years ago (on TV) you would see pitchers with a jacket worn over their pitching arm & shoulder.

It doesn't seem likely the game will be played today since it's supposed to be bad all the way up to 9pm or later.

King,

FWIW, Brad posted this - hope it doesn't play out like this tonight.

I'm sure they are smart enough to watch weather forecasts. Wonder what G'ville weather is going to be like ?

Tuned into AccuWeather Gainesville Weather Radar - solid mass of storms sitting on top of G'ville all the way to Lake City. Jax is getting the same with occasional thunder & lightning.

Hopefully game is rained out & postponed.

After playing 3 games in 2 days against Texas Tech in the Regional, some extra rest for our pitcher's arms may help.

I suppose maybe we’d push the whole series to Saturday - Monday rather than a double header.

Maybe we should have rained it out. 2 runs not a disaster. At least he’s throwing strikes. Let’s get some baserunners.

Usc has 7 hits through 2 innings....oof. Gotta buckle down. I don't trust our bats to continually try and catch up every inning.

Hope the Gators win today; don't need / want the drama of a 1 game winner take all encounter on Sunday.

Would like a comfortable win; don't, as Bradley Gator says, need them to fire a whole clip at us again today.

Doubt we get one - USCe too damn good !

Would love to end it today. Was glad to see we cooled the carolina bats the last 5 innings. Hopefully that carries over to today and they stay cold.

Man,.....

If UF were to make it to the CWS, I hope somebody takes Wake Forest out on their side of the bracket. They look nigh unbeatable no matter who they play...and they are at it again.

ACC was not as strong as usual this year. Hard to say what Wake has. But Bama is a good team and Wake will be in for a fight.
