Thoughts on this Florida team moving onto 2024......

Nobody here claimed UF is some type of championship caliber team. We all knew where this team stood before the season. All we hoped for this year was some progress, and we're actually witnessing it on both sides of the ball.

This Gator team has also started 11 freshmen, more than any power 5 team in the nation with some other team I can't remember starting 7 freshmen. This is also sending a message to recruits.
You can't battle with Instaturd....he's smarter than us all put together.

Let’s all be honest, Mertz has played 3x better than any of us thought (although I was bullish if anyone cares to check my posts) and Napier deserves huge credit first for bringing him in and second for coaching him up to put up better numbers than he did in 2 years in the Big 10.
I've been blown away by Mertz. I had no expectation of him doing anything. I only hoped that he wouldn't be the worst player on offense. This by far was his most impressive game. Clutch throws, throwing it up field, buying time, several 3rd down conversions. Guy can really ball out. Hell of a pick up by CBN. The player evaluation has been pretty great all around so far and recruiting is on fire. I don't have massive expectations this year but we have improved as a team this year in a lot of areas. I'm excited by this last win. Hope we keep fighting down the stretch and surprise another team like we did TN.

Mertz has a pretty big time arm. He can really zip it. And pretty good athlete as far as moving around the pocket and even picking up a few yards here and there.

gatordudx3, you're the one following everything Dan says, not me.
I also don't follow McLame or the Musclecramp either.
You're the one with hang-ups that you can't seem to let go of, not me....

I pay him/them even less attention than I do to a twit like you....

You've been trashing Napier and his staff the same way Cousin Eddie has all season.

Billy Napier is still a question mark in my mind. There are a lot of positives I see, but until it translates into becoming a true contender in the SEC, I'm skeptical. I want him to succeed very badly because going through another transition would keep the program at a mediocre level. If he can keep this year's recruiting class together and win another couple of games this year, I'll be more optimistic.

I agree. We need stability in the program. We will see if he makes the necessary changes to become a championship caliber program. Year 2 thus far has been better than year 1. Due to much more difficult schedule the record may not reflect it, but definite improvement.

I started out pretty positive on Napier and really liked his recruiting, but I was concerned that he may be a moron after watching his team play through last year and first few games of this year. Penalties and dumb substitution stuff were what concerned me and also the team just seemed lifeless. But the last few games and Mertz’ development have given me some hope that he may know what he’s doing on offense at least. And he has shown he can recruit. And most importantly it looks like he will put a season together this year that will not be a negative for recruiting, so we should really see his best shot next year.

I’m good with 7-9 wins for a couple years so long as it looks like we’re building toward something. And ultimately I don’t expect to dominate the SEC. I think those days are over unless you catch a hot run like UGA the last couple years. I’ll be happy if we’re competing for spots in the SECT game which will mean we’re competing for playoff spots.

Trashing Him????
Addressing coaching choices and the outcomes is not trashing in my dictionary.
But I will admit to not being a new coach suck-up like some of the rest posting here... 😜

In a year and a half as the Gator HC:
He had a 6-7 losing season.
Plus he was embarrassed in the crap bowl by LAC 12 OreSt, with his hand picked xfer QB Miller.

He's gone a pitiful 2-7 loser in his away games.
He's 6-6 Conf. so far, with the strength of the 2nd season Conf. games yet to come.
And he's only won 2 games vs Top 25 teams, with both of those wins played in the Swamp.

At this point, I don't GaS what any of the previous coached did, or didn't do.
None of them had a 50+ staff or NIL money to carry recruiting for them, while the last HC had to try to deal with a 2 year Scamdemi that was fostered and accepted by the Admin of Socialist-U....

Unlike you, I'm living in today, while you are still making excuses for today, using your weak opinionated crap from the past.

On the football fans many and varied opinions, it's each too his own...
Like most here, I'd rather see Billy succeed than fail,
but I'm not going to sugar coat all of his choices or their outcomes, just to be a suck-up like you.... Nor will your type of WOKE BS change what I say, or how I say it. I'm not afraid of being cancelled by the twits of the world....

Still bringing up past mistakes to justify your hate for the current staff like you always do when defending Mike White. We see you still bring up Billy Donovan's record during his his last season in Gainesville. Oh, and Billy Donovan would have reached the Elite Eight in 2017 without John Egbunu.

While I'd never approve of you being censored or silenced, that doesn't mean that I have to waste my time with you individually. Therefore, Congrats on making it into the small echo chamber with a few other iG hater mega-twits IGNORE list.

You have a real nice day now,,, ya-hear......

Florida ranks towards the bottom of the conference in rushing and passing yards per game, while Georgia is in the top five among SEC schools in run and pass defense.

Anyone want to try and predict the number of Mertz sacks in that game???
Vs Candy, 3 sacks and 10 QBH's.....
6th in the league in passing yards per game (only 18 yards per game behind 3rd), 10th in rushing yards per game. Balance would be great but our Oline is rated 13th out of 14 on PFF in the SEC. Mertz spends the entire game running for his life. Hopefully oline starts to play better.

I think the O line is what they are this year, inexperienced. It's the toughest group to work correct...5 guys on the same page and if I makes a mistake then they all look bad. I think we look better but it won't be a bright spot this year.

Mertz is a great QB and he's the only one on the roster that's smart enough to learn and apply Napiuer's really complicated schematic advantages offense.

Brown and Miller, are apparently both total mental incompetents that have no chance of ever becoming the starter moving forward, while Leon and Leise are just there as WO practice dummies....

Napier/Mertz Vs UGly
25 of 34, 73.5% for 230 Yds, 2 TD's, 0 Int's, 4 Sacks, L-29,,, while getting pasted 20 - 43
Dual Threat Runs - 5 with a 1 Yd TD and 4 sacks for -36 Yds, -6.4 YPC
(that answered my previous 'how many sacks vs UGly' question)

Smart/Beck - For Comparison:
19 of 28, 67.8% for 315 Yds, 2 TD's, 0 Ints, 0 Sacks, L-55
Dual Threat Runs - 4 for 11 Yds, 2.8 YPC

Napier & Mertz only problem is supposedly the terrible OL that's being coached up by not 1, but 2 OL coaches. But with a 50+ staff and NIL $$$ pouring in, Billy is bringing in 5-star OL to fix that, right?

OL recruited by Billy so far:

2023
#6 OT Roderick Kearney 6-4 300 **** 94

#24 OT Caden Jones 6-7.5 329 **** 90
#52 OT Knijeah Harris 6-3 335 *** 88
#49 OG Bryce Lovett 6-5 330 *** 87
===== Transfer In's =====
OT Lyndell Hudson 6-7 320 ** --> FIU xfer ***
OT Damieon George 6-6.5 348 *** --> UA xfer ***
OG Micah Mazzccua 6-5 335 *** --> BU xfer ****

2024 Currently Committed:
#10 OT Fletcher Westphal 6-8 335 **** 93

#31 OT Mike Williams 6-7 310 *** 89
#79 OT Marcus Mascoli 6-4.5 292 *** 87
#77 OG Moel Portnjagin 6-5 334 *** 86 - Germany

So just wait until next year when all those new 5-star OL are on the field....

We have arguably the worst offensive line in the league, and that is a fact. Defense got shoved around pretty good yesterday too.

Billy has been dealt a tough hand as far as the O-line. He was able last year to bring in Torrence. He hasn’t been as lucky this year. Damien George has been a disappointment. Injuries haven’t helped. Let’s give his some time to get some big bodies in the fold.

Napier said he, his coaches and his players must now seek remedies in short order to establish more consistency and prevent recurring errors. (sounds familiar)
>>> UF football now equates to Whac-A-Mole...

I agree. Napier throws his players under the bus a lot. His presser on Saturday he spoke expansively about accountability and learning from mistakes and then sat there and told everyone that it was a great call to have your RB throw it on 4th and 1 from your own 32 at 10-7.

I think we will have the players to compete for 9-3 and a possible playoff spot next season but Napier needs to look in the mirror and get his act together.

Did he also mention eliminating first quarter double reverses, running back passes on 4th and 1, and special teams coaching? Oh, wait, forget the last one as we don't have a special teams coach.

"A Florida defense that has allowed an average of 32.25 points and 423.25 yards and has missed 10.75 tackles per game since Week 5, that is now without its leader in tackles in linebacker Shemar James."
But at least there's no 3rd & Grantham, or the offensive incompetence of a cousin Eddie...
😉

Meanwhile, Billy just got another fine OL commit, this time it's a top notch PWO instead of just another 3-4 star.... His recruiting prowess is for sure turning around that weak OL for the incoming wonder QB Lagway next season.... 🙄
And oh BTW....
QB-dt Max Brown 2023 Stats: 6 of 7, 85.7% for 50 Yds, 0 Int, 0 sack, RTG 145.7

PS
This game vs 2-6 Ar-kansas is the Gator's last hope for being eligible to be picked to lose in yet another early Dec. chump bowl with a 6-6 record.....
