Gator Softball 2024

This softball team just gets better and better. Beating a Top 15 team like Texas A&M 4 times in 8 days says a lot about their maturity.
Let’s recap. Finished second in the regular season, won all but one series, can do no worse than second in the SEC tournament. Not bad for a team that was picked to finish EIGHTH in the conference.

They've got a decent chance for a Top 8 seed in the NCAA tournament as well. Seedings and Regional pairings are announced Sunday night at 7 pm.

I would be surprised at this point if they didn't get a top 8 seed. Great job by Walton, and goodness the next two years look really promising. These freshman have stepped up.

RHP Keagan Rothrock was named SEC Freshman of the Year and she also earned All-SEC Second Team accolades. -- This is the first SEC Freshman of the Year award for the program since Amanda Lorenz won the first for the program in 2016.

Amanda Lorenz (born April 25, 1997) is an American professional softball player for the USSSA Pride and member of the United States Women's National Softball Team. She played college softball for the Florida Gators, where she was named NFCA National Freshman of the Year in 2016.

So, for a bit of trivia. - Where is Amanda Lorenz now? Update:

Head Coach Tim Walton
named Amanda Lorenz as the program's Volunteer Assistant Coach Friday, August 28, 2020 . Lorenz was a 4-X National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American with the Gators, enters her new role after she spent the Democrat induced, shortened 2020 Scamdemic season in the dugout as a student assistant coach.

But now Outfielder Amanda Lorenz has signed for the 2024 and 2025 Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball Championship seasons. She will compete with the league for two years in Rosemont, Illinois. For the 2023 Championship season, Lorenz led the league in batting average (.478) and on-base percentage (.579).

Good stuff. Brown was National POY in 2023, not 2022. Rothrock was National POY in 2022. Cassidy McLellan was playing very well in limited opportunities this year for the Gators, but had a season ending shoulder injury a little past the midway point in the season. Hovermale was primarily a 3rd baseman, but was beaten out for the position by Kowalewski in the fall. Kowalewski has been a solid .300 hitter in her freshman year and proven to be a very good defensive player. No way Hovermale plays SS next year. She doesn't have the mobility or range to play SS at the D1 level. She has played the least of any of the freshmen and it will be interesting to see if she opts to enter the transfer portal or decides to work harder in the off season in order to compete for a starting job. Mia Williams, who has played 2nd for Florida this year, has played SS all her career and will be given every opportunity to win the position. But incoming freshman Gabi Comia is supposed to be a great SS and could win the job.
While next year's freshman class was not rated the #1 class in the country like this year's, it's mainly because there were only 5 players in the class. They are all elite players who will compete for playing time, including a big time pitcher to add depth to our staff. Here they are:

Guys I was fortunate enough to be at the SEC championship yesterday (did I mentIon I have connections at AU?). Let me tell you that was a moonshot Williams hit. The scoreboard is behind the centerfield wall and maybe 30 feet high and it cleared it with plenty to spare. Wow!

Florida (46-12) has now won 8 consecutive contests, a streak that dates back to 4-28-24.

And if they win the Regional, they will continue to be the host for the Super Regional.

The season number of games played vary widely among the 64 teams.
And that's why the W/L is not the only or main consideration when picking the 64.

Insta - You got your facts wrong on a few things. First of all the Knoxville bracket has Tennessee, Dayton, Virginia and Miami (OH). Lousiville didn't make the tourney this year and Indiana is playing in the Missouri Regional. Secondly, the nation's leading home run hitters this year so far are:
Karli Spaid, Miami (OH) - 36
Jenna Golembiewski - Miami (OH) - 28
MacKayla Timmons - Ball State - 25

Third, Kiki Malloy only hit 11 home runs for Tennessee. Taryn Kern transferred from Indiana to Stanford after last season and hit only 7 home runs for Stanford this year. Taylor Roby graduated from Louisville in 2023 and spent 2024 as a Grad Asst. Coach at Clemson.

But isn't whoever copies and pastes information responsible for the content? That paragraph had false information. You didn't post a link until you replied to me and that article correctly stated the actaul 4 teams who were in that regional, which didn't match up with what you copied and pasted regarding team home run hitters, which was at the end of the article. You copied and pasted the false information paragraph and headed the section with The IG Stat Trivia Section, as if you put the data together youself. I was just letting you know that the info. you provided was incorrect and giving you the true facts. Not trying to cause a problem, just wanting everybody to know what is and isn't factual information.

It looks like the UF/South Alabama game is only being televised on ESPN+ at 1 pm Saturday. The winner goes to Sunday where someone would have to beat them twice. The loser has to play the winner of FGCU/FAU Saturday night and then win 2 games on Sunday. Huge game for the Gators!!!

If they think that they can force/sell me SEC+ by doing this, they can't and they won't.

I will now avoid all programming on both SEC-N and the ESPN's until the Gators are back on normal programming.....

So instead of increasing this additional paid programming, they just lost some viewership....

While they are different pitchers, they are both very good.
Here's a perfect example of that in Game 3 of the NCAA Regional

RHP Rothrock - 2 IP - 1 H - 0 R - 0 ER - 1 BB - 4 SO - BF 8
Does not bat.

RHP/1B Brown - 3 IP - 3 H - 1 R - 1 ER - 0 BB - 3 SO - BF 12
Batting - 2 AB - 1 R - 1 H - 2 RBI - 0 BB - 0 SO - .260

Florida hosts Baylor in the Super Regionals, as they knocked out #13 seed Louisiana. Louisiana came out of the loser's bracket and killed Baylor 13-0 earlier today, but Baylor won the decikding game this eveing 4-3. This team is peaking at the right time. Pitching is getting sharper, the bottom of the order is contributing, defense is solid and the Top 5 continue doing their thang.
