2021-22 Basketball Primer

The idea of just making the post season being the measuring stick for the success of a coach at THE University of Florida is absurd. Any coach worth his salt will say that the #1 goal of every Gator team is winning the SEC and in 7 years the best our men's BB team has done is finish 3rd. The other years we weren't really in the hunt. How long does anyone think our baseball and softball coaches would last if their best SEC finish in 7 years was 3rd place? But they made the 64-team NCAA tournament field, they're doing a great job!!?? C'mon. Since Mike White has been in Gainesville, here are the following SEC titles won by UF:
Baseball - 2 regular season, 1 tournament
Men's Swimming & Diving - 7
Men's Tennis - 2 regular season - 1 tournament
Men's Indoor Track & Field - 2
Men's Outdoor Track & Field - 2
Women's Golf - 1
Gymnastics - 4
Lacrosse - 6 regular season - 6 tournament
Soccer - 1 regular season, 2 tournament
Softball - 5 regular season - 2 tournament
Women's Tennis - 2 regular season, 2 tournament
Women's Outdoor Track & Field - 1
Volleyball - 3

That's 52 SEC championships, with all the spring sports still competing in the 7th year since Mike White took over Men's Basketball at the University of Florida. And most other years, when these programs didn't win the SEC, they were in the hunt and oftentimes finished 2nd or 3rd. And UF has won 9 national titles over the last 7 years as well, plus finished in the Top 5 for the Director's Cup for the best all around athletic program in the NCAA every year during that time. Men's Basketball is not pulling it's weight and with it being the #2 revenue sport on campus, it should be doing much better.

So, send multi-millionaire Mike White on his well deserved 8.75 million buy-out vacation and be done with it. It would be worth it, just to see where the program goes next with someone else.

And oh BTW, name his replacement. One that is a better coach and most important will he want to come to Socialist-U for these fans?

And we can all meet in the Karl Marx Reading Room to discus Mike's replacement....

Yeah I’m not dismissive of the fact that Mike White had made the tourney every year and won a game. That’s not nothing. And he does get the kids to play hard. But his rosters are getting worse and worse. What are we going to look like next year without Castleton? The fact that we are taking transfers like Jones and McKissic tells you all you need to know. Neither should play for a good SEC team. And he’s not a master strategist. Nembhard is the best player on a 1 seed and white had him dribbling with his back to the basket for 30 seconds every possession.

I appreciate his efforts, and he seems like a good guy, but we should compete for an SEC title every 5 years or so. That’s not unreasonable.

White hasn't made the NCAA tournament every year at UF. He's made it 4 times in 7 seasons. In 2016 they went to the NIT, in 2020 there was no tournament due to COVID. That Gator team finished 19-12, 11-7 in the SEC, 5th seed for the SEC tournament. They weren't a lock for the tourney that year, although their NET was #29 and they had 5 Quad 1 wins. This year they will be asked to play in the NIT.

Where the program would go? You mean possibly going to the NIT? Going to irrelevancy?

Well, let me spoil it for you.....UF is already there.

bg, do you ever look at a players bio before you make your claims?
I'm trying very hard to be nice with that question....

Key injuries and Co-V have played havoc on the team the past 2 seasons.

PG Myreon Jones
High-scoring guard who has upped his production each collegiate season, averaging 10.4 points per game with 12 20-point performances over 80 career appearances at Penn State, including a team-leading 15.3 points per game in 2020-21.

Three of his 11 20-point games have come vs. top-25 opponents, and he went for a career-best 29 at Nebraska on Feb. 23, 2021.

Increased his scoring by 9.3 points per gme from 4.0 points as a freshman to 13.3 as a sophomore, coinciding with his move into PSU’s starting lineup.

Two-time All-Big Ten honorable mention honoree with 11 games making four or more 3-pointers.

In 2021-22, even sharing playing time with 4 guards, he still averaged 8.7 Pts/Gm. -- FG 36.4% -- 3's 33.0% -- FT 72.5% -- Total Pts 271.
Those 271 Pts this season would have given him a 4 year total of 1,084 Pts
==========

CG Brandon McKissic

Averaged 11.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals in 107 games with 86 starts over four seasons.

At UMKC, he is the 9th-ranked scorer in program history with 1,178 points.
His scoring average increase each season, climbing from 7.9 as a freshman to 10.5 as a sophomore, 11.0 as a junior and 17.2 in his all-conference senior season, FG 48.4% -- 3's 38.5%
Has 10 games with 20+ points, including a career-best 29 vs. Omaha.
Has 14 games with five or more assists, including a career-best eight on two occasions, with one coming against #2 Kansas.
And he was the 2021 Summit League Defensive Player of the Year.
In 2021-22, even sharing playing time with 4 guards and being used mostly for his tenacious defense, he still averaged 6.1 Pts/Gm for 196 total.

Does anyone else find it odd how much being a "multi-millionaire" seems to mean to some people?

OJ Simpson was a multi-millionaire. Who cares?

back in the 60 and 70s were you like "hahaha Doug Dickey is a multi-thousandaire! But all of you hippies can kiss Socialist-U's buttocks while I continue to enjoy life with my wife of a million 60 years because I'm an immortal vampire that time can't touch. Did I tell you how I saw Steve Spurrier play?"

what are you?

Well, BRAD, you claimed as "fact" that he had made the NCAA tourney every year. That wasn't true and I just wanted to make sure you understood that you had stated something that was false. Truth and facts should be important, but if you want to claim them as meaningless then I want those who post on this board to be aware of how little you care about those things. Clear enough?

Damn!! Those players are awesome! We should definitely make a deep run with these superstars! Oh, wait...are they good and got poorly coached or were they overrated and lived up to their true potential? So confused...

Oof, talk about putting him in a corner. However, we all know that his go-to response when he doesnt have a legit argument, which is almost always, is a laughing emoticon.....so im sure thats what he will respond with.

The funny thing is that he thinks those stats, height, notes, etc are just as important, if not more important, than wins. Whenever UF loses a bad game, Insta will hide for a little bit and then show up with all that info as if somehow makes up for a loss and we should console ourselves with knowing a player is 6'10 and once scored 34 points in high school.

If you pressed him about what the stats were 5 years ago.....and you were in person and put him on the spot.....he wouldnt know a single thing.

So, the Ole Miss rumors are swirling around again. This is a quote from a UF news website a day and a half ago. I thought it was funny.

"While White hasn’t delivered a championship to Florida, his record speaks for itself. The Gators coach is 142-88 in seven seasons at the helm, and has brought the program as far as the Elite Eight in the past. Additionally, White has never finished below .500 in conference play within the vaunted SEC."

His record speaks for itself? 88 losses arent a positive, like the writer downplays by saying "vaunted SEC".

The SEC has done better the last couple years......but vaunted? The rose colored glasses are extra rosey with some people.

I hope they are naive enough to take him off our hands.

Follow you around? Maybe you haven't noticed, but there are only about 8 active threads in here at any given time. We're sure to bump into each other from time to time. But then, maybe you haven't noticed, anyone who thought Todd Grantham and Mike White are good coaches clearly is missing a lot. Of gray matter.

White is way smarter than Billy....Billy should've left a year earlier after the final four....White knew next season had high potential to be a losing one so he bailed out now....too bad Billy couldn't see what was about to happen..

Yep, White realized he had done such a poor job at UF it was about to significantly negatively impact his career, so he hopped.

If it proves nothing else, it proves Mike White is a lot smarter than Instaidiot.

Just noticed we get Iona in the nobody cares tourney.
I believe you meant to say Nobody's Interested Tourney. 8P
Losers = I only care about Gator teams that:
~ Make the CFP, otherwise I don't care about and won't watch them in a lesser Bowl.
~Make the NCAA Tourney, otherwise I don't care and won't watch the NIT
~Make the Regional's then the CWS, otherwise I don't care............

The iG will be watching and enjoying the team play in the NIT, win or lose.
😜

BillyD came in on B-2-B losing seasons, and he left on a losing season.
(and yes, he did very well most years in between his 3 losing season)

Mike came in on an NIT, and left on an NIT, making 4 NCAA's and was projected in for a 5th before the cancelled 2020.

So, what does all of that mean?
NADA, because they are both gone for good now...

I just wish MW left UF like BD did.....by winning more than 1 game in the tournament, not called NIT, with his own recruits in the duration of his position.
