The horrible character traits of losing in the team were exposed for all to see. It all started on Sunday Night when D-Rob didn't show for the mandatory team meal and then on Monday when the 30 members of the team were so full of themselves that they showed up late for taping that practice was not started on time. Lack of discipline was team wide due to arrogance of how well they played against NMSU. Mac was warning the team and Gator Nation all week about this over confidence and boy it manifested itself Saturday Night in The Swamp!
Everyone has now seen this team has to be completely disciplined in all 3 phases of the game or we cannot be successful. On offense our lack of impact players makes penalties drive killers. On defense the loss of Anzalone and VHIII makes penalties almost double the impact and don't even look when one guy gets out of his lane on kick coverages, the field is almost automatically flipped against us. 15 yard celebration penalties after scores destroys all momentum and cannot be tolerated.
Mac was shaking with anger in his post game presser and did one hell of an impersonation of Nick Saban. Dumb questions will be answered with a snarky answer and doubling back and asking same question again will get you a blast from Mac. Just think what he does behind closed doors with the players when they do dumb sheeoott on the practice field or during a game. I bet he melted some paint off the locker room last night.
Everything that happened last night is completely correctable by following Mac's first rule: Don't do dumb stuff and being undisciplined is DUMB and completely within each players control. I would bet the team will have a much better week of practice and self discipline will be a priority for each player on their own initiative.
It is a great thing this happened against ECU and not when we hit SEC competition or we would get blown off the field. Remember this happened in Urban's first year and there was a "Come to Jesus" meeting on the tarmac in Gainesville after the plane returned and the attitude within the program changed and we all know the rest.
Now we will all find out the character within our team to change from a losing mentality to a winning mentality. Commonwealth Stadium will be showtime!
