Earlier today, Nebraska announced Scott Frost would return next year, but with a restructured contract that decreases his salary by $1 million and cuts his buyout in half. This is on the heels of Jim Harbaugh agreeing to a restructured deal in January that halved his salary and significantly reduced his buyout. In both cases, the contract decreases were offset with hefty new performance incentives to earn what they had before by doing things like winning championships.
Both Frost and Harbaugh were probably largely open to the restructures because they are both alumni of the schools they now coach for.
So this begs the question. Would it be crazy to ask Mullen for a contract restructure like these coaches took in exchange for another year? You know, to see how bad he really wants to be at Florida? A year ago I would have thought such an ask to be insane, but today, it doesn't seem unreasonable. Personally, I don't think Mullen would take it.
