Whispers in the Hall:
June 22nd, 2022
Just a few things I wanted to go over. I appreciate the feedback from any member willing to talk about the pros and cons of the site. In a perfect world, I want to try and provide everything for every member, even though I know that is not a goal I can reach. There are challenges for sure, living in Georgia and not being able to be in Gainesville, and I have no problem talking about it. I have tried to focus a TON of time on the only sport that is 12 months, year-round, 7-days a week, and that is recruiting. I really try to focus on recruiting and keep you up to speed with the RZ, MLL, etc. As other sports come and go, including football, recruiting has become the only 365-day sport in Florida.
Today, the big story was a couple of players leaving the football team or being left off the new roster UF supplied (it is updated on the site under football & roster).
However, one player being mentioned as gone was WR Marcus Burke, which was inaccurate. I do not fault anyone for reporting that, by the way. He was left off the initial roster, so not sure how else that could be interpreted. I reached out to him before posting anything, and he told me he was fine – good to go still on the team. I know there was a time when many felt he would leave for one reason or another, but he is on the team.
One player who initially did not commit to UF – signed with another team and ended up back at UF I felt would reach AA status sooner or later – that seems to be wishful thinking, and many thought he might be part of this round of cuts. It does not matter how talented you are if you have academic issues, miss tutor appointments, fail to show up for treatment, and things of that nature, your time at UF will probably not go well. These are things I typically do not want to talk about or mention, but numerous things are going on with multiple players – get busy living or get busy dying, I always say lol. This will be one vital off-season to see who wants it more.
I can tell you that Florida feels great about how things went with Lucas Simmons. He told me he rates the UF trip a 9.5 out of 10. He went on to say it would have been a 10, BUT he has one remaining visit left, and he will not be able to rate the UF a 10 until he makes this last OV to Florida State.
Regarding DL Derrick LeBlanc. I reported a few weeks ago that OU was a severe team to look out for, and everyone went crazy off the rails, telling me I was an idiot. I expect him to pick UF, especially after his most recent trip to UF, BUT OU is right there, and they have been coming hard.
It is hard for me to see him go to OU or any other school with so many close friends, looking at the Gators.
I think relationships, location, and a few other recruits win out in the end. This is another player in our RZ that UF also feels good with, so we will see what unfolds.
