Well this sucks

That doesn't surprise me. I understand Linus Torvalds, the guy who ported the unix kernel and created linux, is kind of an enormous douchebag.
He got his ideas from MINIX and GNU but had to be a genius because he released his first Kernel in 1991 at the age of 22.

No it’s a total physical failure. It spools up, clicks and then spools down.
Blue death. There are still recovery companies out there that might salvage it. Really depends how valuable your data was to you vs the cost of doing that. And still probably a 50-50 shot at recovery.

It’s really important. Pics of kids when they were little that weren’t backed up.

Any recommendations?

Where do you live? You could probably ship your hard drive anywhere, but I haven't talked to a recovery site in a long time. (work related, and I don't remember) It can be relatively expensive. Their equipment is expensive AF. If you have a friend that is an IT geek, he could probably give you a hell of a lot better recommendation than I could give you.

I bumped the power button on my home theater system and fried the micro sd card. Lost all my music, my OS and my backup won't read. So I have to buy a new sd card, re-install my OS, and reinstall my ten terabyte library, AND copy all the music off my phone back to my home theater.

BALLS.
When you have nothing these are big problems but when you have faith this is trivial.

If it's clicking its more than likely a physical problem with one or more of the physical disks.

What they will do is completely disassemble your drive, put the disks in their equipment and get as much of the data off the disks as possible. If it's clicking, you have multiple bad secotrs, so there will be some data loss.

Then they will transfer that data to a new drive and send it back. Its an expensive process.

Linux is a little more tolerant of bad drives, and you can run a complete recovery OS off a usb drive without altering your computer permanently.

Are you still using firestick type devices for KODI? I gave up on that crap several years ago and just got streaming services instead of cable again. It got aggravating AF. Most of the developers were out of the UK and dropping like flies, to prevent lawsuits. Setting up new repositories every time one dies is a royal pain in the ass. Finally when Sports Devil died and nothing replaced it, I said eff it.

i run Kodi within Libreelec, on a Raspberry Pi 4. There's a new trick I'm using, where you can boot off a USB drive now, instead of a Class 10 sd card. Way less chance of corruption from power failures.

I don't use any illegal programs, and I still have access to sports around the world, espn, fox, Hulu, Netflix, Disney+ and Hbomax.

I never trusted UK/EU developers, they have too many rules over there. The US government doesn't GAF, so I stick with local guys, Slyguy/Sandmann/Castigliani, etc

Is buffering an issue?
