Video of Coach's presser....OUCH

Those guys don't look like maniacs like Muschamp and McElwain though....Short of maybe Bobby Knight, I've never seen a successful coach do something like what we've grown accustomed to seeing on our sidelines the last 5 years. It's just freaking embarrassing.

But that's what happens when you hire unproven coaches

The problem is that when Saban/Spurrier/Urban, etc go off on a player, he doesn't look like an out-of-control maniac like Muschamp/McElwain. Completely overboard. Looks like Mc is picking up right where Muschamp left off - first on the recruiting trail, now on the sidelines.

And to put him in the game right after the blow-up?? I don't get it. I guess that's his way of "taking control".

BS! You are either a casual fan or have your head in the sand.

Saban

Coach is going to be the face of the program (and, for many, the face of the university) for a few years. JMO but, when he's on stage, he needs to be more professional.

Piss off, bull$^i* poser semi fan.

Here is a link to the audio...sadgator must admit, while it may have been a little over the top...sadgator will bet good money that Taylor (and anybody else in that little circle) never does a throat slash again...

I understand the frustration. I understand it is a point that needs to be made. Smart football is probably as important as having great talent. However, optics are critical these days. I think the coach has learned as much as KT did after that display that has gone national. You blast the leader of your team in front of many players and now seen all over the nation....you are not going to motivate your team to its max potential, imo.

I am not sure about the recruiting angle...I think lots of players play for coaches that can get loud, cuss, etc, but who knows how much the 'embarrassment in front of the entire nation' will affect them when making their decision? Will other programs use the tape as a recruiting tool, etc? As I said, hard to say about the recruiting angle.

I can't think of one successful coach who hasn't done that. Not Spurrier, not Urban, not Saban, not Dantonio, not Bellicheck...see where I'm going with this yet? Obviously Mac hasn't proven to be on any of their level, but point is that's just coaching. It happens literally every Saturday.

Agree with you Oozie. Mac isn't coaching the chess club by the way.

Boo Fvcking Hoo.

Taylor KNOWS the throat slash is a penalty, and it was a VERY close game.

The is all part of the pussification of America. If you play high level sports, you get chewed out from time to ttime. Get the hell over it.

Fred shouldn't have opined at all.

Jacksonville State players jumped around like fools and the player who got the recovery with 3 minutes left was called for unsportsmanlike conduct. They were backed up 15 yards. 3 and out and a 17 yard punt....then they lost.

Those 15 yards would have helped QUITE A BIT. For one, they wouldn't have been putting out of their own end zone.

Stupid celebration flags can have consequences.

If you really listened to his "chat" with Kelvin you heard the overall message he was trying to get across. "Stop looking at the ground. BE A MAN. Look me in the eye" That's the message I saw him getting a cross. GROW UP. I loved it. It needed to be done and done publicly so there was no doubt what he wants from this program.

It is getting way overblown. Remember Lou Holtz grabbing one of his players face mask while he was at Notre Dame. Don't tell me Spurrier's never yelled at any of his QBs before either.

I remember Jimbo yanking Winston by the mask and telling him to STFU.

Kelvin Taylor joins the third stringers.

McElwain, who said he got "an earful" from his 94-year-old mother, demoted Kelvin Taylor from first to third team on the depth chart Monday. The junior from Belle Glade leads the Gators with 109 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Either Jordan Cronkrite or fellow freshman Jordan Scarlett is expected to start against the Wildcats.

"Being a starter is not the end of the world, but what point are you trying to make?" Fred Taylor said. "Are you trying to show the media that you're going to be a no-nonsense guy? Or are you trying to get the players' attention? I thought you did that already."

sounds like Taylor is laughing at him around the 12 or 13 second mark.

Coach then responds by saying something like, You think its funny?

Taylor should just do a gun motion instead of a knife motion next time - coach seems to be OK with that.

When I saw the rage in his eye towards KT last night, the first thing that came to my head was does a future 4/5 star recruit want to get beat into hamburger in front of the world like that. I completely understand the the culture change swiftly, but I think that reaction comes from game 8 or 9 if a player already has it drilled into his head to not F-up. I'm worried!

It doesn't seem to bother top recruits from going to Alabama and playing for Saban

he's right that you have to correct these mistakes, but the jury is still out on whether he can take this team beyond where Muschamp took them. Right now, he reminds me a lot of Muschamp.

And his first game as a HC against a Power Five team is next week. Boom!

Honestly this whole story is so overblown it's ridiculous. This kind of thing happens ALL the time...and has always happened. Did he go a little overboard? Sure...but big deal. Don't want to get your a$$ chewed out then don't do stupid stuff.

Amen...lots of coaches chew their guys out on the sidelines. In a week nobody will be talking about it again...this is only news because there are no games right now...wait until Thursday...this will be over.

Here is the way I see it, KT made a slashing gesture and he was penalized 15 yards which hurt his team. This is why Mac was pissed off. He said whenever you are about SELF you are NOT a team player.

Those guys may well be better than Taylor

As a father with a son that's an athlete let me say this. Fred's opinion, in spite of his football acumen, has zero credibility in this matter.

Pretty sure that was the not so subtle sarcasm in his post lol.

Silly that people are actually freaking out about this.

Had to be a weird Muschamp flashback or something.

When Saban does this, Bama fans clap their hands. Are we, as a fan base, that sensitive?

nothing wrong with disciplining a player.

what made this noteworthy was how out of control and almost violent coach Mac was. If he had struck Taylor at any second, you wouldn't be surprised. The excessive profanity was not good either.

time will tell, but the first impression is that he is wound even tighter than Muschamp.

Yeah, throwing your visor is the same as birthing a flying monkey from your ass....which is what I though was happening to Mac.

I never said anything about throwing his visor. I have seen Spurrier rip his QBs on the sideline while at UF. Your telling me you've never seen this? I've seen him totally tear into Terry Dean and Doug Johnson has 2 examples. This was back in the 90s. Things are much different now as far as what is seen on camera, etc.

Excessive profanity? He said f*ck like three times LOL. Some of you would hate to be on a college football practice field if you think that moment is such a big deal.

Rampant personal criticism of the new Gator HBC. o_O

And that language was 'highly offensive' to me.

But since I've taken a lifetime oath to defend the Constitution against ALL ENEMIES, foreign or domestic, it's still okay wid-me... ;)
Long live the 2nd Amendment!!!

If he knew it was a penalty then why did he do it?

Holding is a known penalty....why do players do it?
Offsides is a known penalty....why do players do it?
False start is a known penalty....why do players do it?
Clipping is a known penalty....why do players do it?
Delay of game is a known penalty....why do players do it?
Late hit is a known penalty....why do players do it?

I must confess, I have no effin clue what point you are trying to make.

I'm pretty sure the "after I've scored a touchdown" penalty is a little different in it's execution and ability to be controlled than all of those other examples.

OK, so what the hell does that do with anything?

Was that poster trying to say that maybe Taylor didn't know about the throat slash gesture being a penalty?

So, he knew to DO it...but he had no idea it is a personal foul?

I don't think I'm stupid enough to understand the point he is trying to make. Can someone who speaks Nole or a$$hole please translate for me?

There is a major difference in the two types of penalties. Those you listed are in the act of playing and the one Taylor committed was after the play was over. Big difference
