Rutgers starting OT Raiqwon O’Neal enters the transfer portal

January 20
Rutgers junior Raiqwon O’Neal, (6'5" 297 lbs, from Conway, S.C.) a two-year starter at left tackle for the Scarlet Knights, has entered the transfer portal. O’Neal, from Conway, S.C., redshirted in 2018, then started four games in 2019 before becoming a fulltime starter in 2020; he was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection in 2020.

EDIT - 3/9/22
Good OL in high demand; O'Neal enrolled in UCLA 3/7/22.

USC DT Ishmael Sopsher is in transfer portal - again

EDIT - 3/9/22
Still looking

January 18

USC redshirt sophomore DT Ishmael Sopsher, (6'4" 334 lb) who transferred to USC from Alabama following the 2020 season, has re-entered the transfer portal. Sopsher, from Amite, La., was an On3 Consensus four-star prospect and a national top-75 player in the 2019 recruiting class. But he has played in just two games in his college career — one at Alabama against Western Carolina in 2019 and this season against Notre Dame. Sopsher needed surgery for a leg issue in early 2021 and missed all of spring practice and preseason camp at USC.

Don't know if Sopsher ever visited Gators, but seem to recall some sort of involvement with his original recruiting.

EDIT
Billy's Louisiana connections may come into play if Gators have any interest.

To amuse myself, I checked up on Ishmael Sopsher; he entered the portal 1/18/22 -
no transfer destination listed as yet.

As a HS prospect, he was highly regarded -

Originally signed with Bama; transferred to USC. Interesting to see where he ends up.

Evidently the Transfer Portal is not a magic wand.

Per TOS, Nearly 1,400 FBS players have entered the transfer portal since December, creating a flurry of movement that’s altered the college football landscape.

Read somewhere that there are more players in Portal than scholarships available.
The Covid rules granting extra eligibility seemed to have slowed the natural progression of athletes matriculating through college & caused a backup in the pipeline. No telling how it will shake out.

Marginal HS & college players & those with discipline problems are being ignored.

Mullen used to sign academically challenged players; few of which - other than Diwun Black - panned out.

Coaches no longer need to take a chance on these types of players - just go shopping in the Transfer Portal.

Wonder how long you can sit in the portal & maintain college eligibility ?

How long before many of them start calling coaches & looking for a 2nd chance.

Since most schools use a collective similar to Florida's, they will have the opportunity to hook up with merchants, etc. but I doubt they will be guaranteed any NIL $$$.

IMO, NIL will only exacerbate this situation & cause problems for the less gifted players who needed an athletic scholarship to get a college education & better themselves.

In addition to Sopsher, other big names - like QB J. T Daniels & WR Bru McCoy are still looking for a new home.

The days of the pampered athlete may be in jeopardy.

Oh well; they can always get a job & work for a living like the rest of us !
