I;ll bet Bama FSU would have been the BCS title game. How wrong would that have been?Originally posted by sadgator:

Did you see how many bowl games with RANKED teams were less than half filled? It basically comes down to folks just not caring if they didn't get to the playoff games.Originally posted by sadgator:
If for nothing else those playoff bowl game atmospheres were awesome. The non-playoff games were
the pits. So much money to be made and energy to be generated for the other bowls. It is going to expand sooner rather than later.
Especially with a few weeks to prepare.Originally posted by sadgator:

Yes, 6 maybe. Or maybe 5 ! The latter to make room mostly for teams from Power-5 conferences lacking a championship game (e.g.: Baylor, OU, TCU), or from lesser conferences (championship game or not). My intent is to require them to prepare for and play a wild-card-like game, which would become the one-&-only de facto quarterfinal game. Such as for a highly-ranked mostly-independent Notre Dame, or a MW-or-WAC-undefeated Brigham Young (see their 1985 joke MNC game vs. a 6--6 Michigan team), or undefeated "All-American Conference" teams (e.g.: Central Florida [#]) that might appear on the scene in any particular season.6 maybe, but never 8.
I agree completely. I am worried about the hype "out there" that lot of people, whom I suspect of being sports fans whose primary football loyalty is to the NFL, want a 16-team college-football play-off. If that happens, expect to see more lunacy like in the 2011/2012 season, in which conference-division nonchamp Bama was awarded an unchallenged trip to the BCSCG, while practically erasing the regular-season victory by the eventual conference champ LSU, which beat Bama fair-&-square as a visitor to Tuscaloosa, but was required to be distracted from BCSCG preparation, and take the risk of key injuries, to play an extra game--the SECCG (vs. UGa?)--before they could play the Bama mulligan (Jan. 9, 2012).This thing could get out of hand and quickly turn into a 16 team joke.
I agree, keep it at 4, this is perfect. don't dilute it.Originally posted by oozie7:
Don't ruin a good thing. I was weary of the 4-team playoff but I'll admit I was off there. The 4-team playoff is fine because it basically serves as a plus one and it keeps the regular season important since 1 loss can still keep you out of the playoffs. If it goes to 8 teams 2 and 3-loss teams will routinely be in. Sorry, but if you lose 2 or 3 games you have no business being in the championship discussion. 4 teams is perfect.
