UF Softball 2025

You cant out hit everyone in the mighty SEC this year. Coach is gonna have to make some adjustments to the pitching staff. We just dont have a shut down pitcher that can give us a 150 pitches and allow 2 runs.
You're right about that - this year. Last year we rode true freshman Keagan Rothrock all the way to the national semifinals at the WCWS, because she WAS the kind of pitcher we could rely on to be THE stud in the circle. She led the SEC in innings pitched and led the nation in games won. This year she just hasn't been the same pitcher. I know she missed 5 weeks with an undisclosed issue and maybe she's not fully recovered. Maybe it's mental. But whatever it is, she has only been an average SEC pitcher this year with a conference ERA of over 5.00. Ava Brown is a little better in the circle than she was last year, but she still hasn't developed into a complete game type of pitcher. 3-4 innings at best. Freshman Katelyn Oxley was showing signs, but seems to have completely lost her confidence the last few times out and, also, can't go more than a few innings at a time. Going into the post season, Coach Walton is going to have to approach each game as a pitch by committee type of deal and not be too hesitant to change out pitchers. Otherwise, our NCAA journey will be a short one.

Honestly, I think we're overseeded this year. The NCAA definitely rewarded us for playing the toughest schedule in the nation and for taking 2 of 3 from the #1 & #2 seeds. But with our defensive and pitching struggles, I'm very concerned about our ability to make it to the WCWS. Would love to be wrong because I love this team. Several of our players have not produced up to the way they did last year. The talent is there to win it all and I hope we can put it together and o on a great run. We shall see & GOOOO Gators.

Was she overused last year? Or is that not a thing in women’s softball. I watched our postseason last year and seemed like she pitched every game, including at least once where she pitched consecutive games.

No such thing as overuse of softball pitchers, IMO. The pitching motion for softball is totally natural and as long as the legs hold up, they can throw every day. It's only been the last 10 years or so that college softball teams had pitching staffs of 4-6. Teams used to have 2, with 1 doing doing the bulk of the work. Florida's first superstar, Stacey Nelson, was like that. Arizona won a WCWS with 1 pitcher throwing every pitch for her team in Oklahoma City. Arizona State beat the Gators in the WCWS finals several years ago with a freshman pitcher throwing every game of the WCWS. There's something else going on with Rothrock that is probably related to the 5 weeks she missed at the start of the SEC season due to an undisclosed injury or issue of some kind. Since she's returned from that she's not been the same pitcher as she was before. Could be partially a confidence thing as well. We may never know because Coach Walton is extremely tight-lipped about his player's health issues.

Keagan Rothrock still struggling in the circle, giving up 6 runs in 4.2 innings. But the offense scored 5 runs in the 4th and 7 more in the 5th to get the run rule win. Freshman Taylor Shumaker slugged 2 more HR's and had 5 RBI's and Jocelyn Erickson got the grand slam walk off HR. Looks like Florida will play Mercer Sunday, only needing to beat them once to advance to the Supers. Mercer beat Georgia Tech earlier today in an elimination game and is ahead of FAU 7-0 in the bottom of the 6th. #1 Texas A&M got put in the loser's bracket by Liberty this afternoon 8-5 and LSU is on the verge of elimination tonight, getting beat in the opening game yesterday by SE LA and is behind them now in an elimination game 4-1. Still concerned about Gator pitching being able to beat elite teams. We face the winner of the Duke Regional in the Supers and Georgia is the 2-0 team there right now.

If she struggled against Florida Atlantic then she sure as hell doesnt need to pitch against any SEC school

Yep - Since she came back from her 5 week hiatus her ERA is close to 6.00. She's throwing as hard as ever, physically seems to be fine. Just is having a lot of trouble with location and puts too many balls over the heart of the plate. Very concerning moving deeper in the tournament. On top of that, our freshman phenom, Katelyn Oxley, who had been great most of the season, has gotten blasted her last couple of times out and seems to have lost her confidence. We can't rely on outscoring everybody and eventually will have to win a low scoring game.

Gators get their 3rd run rule of the Regionals and beat Mercer 8-0 in 5 innings. Keagan Rothrock only gave up 1 hit and had 6 K's in 4.1 innings. Gators will host either Duke or Georgia in the Supers next weekend. Duke is the seeded, host team, but has to beat Georgia twice today to advance. Go Dukies!!!

9 SEC teams in the Super and there could be anywhere from 3 to 6 of them in the WCWS. I hope it's only 3 with the Gators one of them.
Here is a link to the games and broadcast times. Florida/Georgia opens things up Friday at 11 am on ESPN2.
