UF/FSU/Miami Recruiting

If they don't control this NIL, only a handful of teams will dominate more than what is happening today. Those schools that have deep pockets (A&M, Texas, OSU....) will get all the top talent.

I think Pandora's Box has been opened, the cat is out of the bag, however you want to phrase it. We're in a new era of college sports where free agency reigns and those with the most money buys the best players. There was a lot of that going on previously, but now it's totally legal and out in the open. Florida is moving in the right direction to keep up with the Joneses and we'll see how it all plays out. But you're right - it definitely brings some programs that had been floundering back into prominence fairly quickly - Texas & Southern Cal to name 2.

my concern is actually a little different. I feel for the coaches

scenario: you have a two player QB battle. Business X puts huge NIL on QB A. Coach starts QB A or Business X will never NIL again

this is going to get messy on many levels.

USC is about to be an unstoppable monster

They will be right there with Bama very shortly

I'm not feeling this.

I see two reasons QB A gets a huge NIL.

1. Business X is a business in business mode, looking to get in on the ground floor of a future superstar. Doesn't work out. If they have no allegiance to UF, doesn't really matter.
2. Business X is a business in "Go Gator" mode. They are paying this kid to come to UF. But like all UF fans (except Insta), what we want are wins. If that means the other guy starts, it is what it is. Only if the QB the coaches choose is lousy and they won't switch him out (which we've seen happen) does it become an issue.

Georgia has always been a hotbed of football talent, especially the Atlanta area. It is after all one of the top 10 largest cities in the US, and populations have migrated to the cities. This past season the state of Georgia had the 4th most players on NFL rosters, behind Florida, Cali, and Texas. But one thing the article fails to mention, is that participation in football has shown significant decreases everywhere with the exception of the deep south. That participation rate is going to have a drastic impact on where the talent resides.

People think that but have they shown they are going to buy players like these SEC teams and future SEC Texas. I wonder if the boosters there are going to go A&M level in the 2023 class.

I wish we were keeping our very top ones but they seemed a lot more state loyal in GA and LA than here in FL since at least after Meyer departed if not before that. Could have been the illegal payouts causing that however.

I am not saying they are or are not

i just think nationally NIL will have impacts we haven’t considered yet

lizard-

not necessarily in disagreement with you

but lets use up here in MI for example

a car group recently paid JJ McCarthy huge money. Harbaugh is known for his 1980s thinking that you sit three years to play one

if he starts Cade again JJ probably portals because he wants the league

so now someone just paid huge money for a kid who leaves

is said business going to continue to pay Michigan players?

just saying I think coaches are going to feel pressure

They will definitely feel the pressure and they would have (some) control over who plays.

The Florida schools combined for 11 nattys. But each has suffered through bad coaching hires which drastically impacted success. Miami scares me the most. If they ever figure out the coaching and NIL deal, they will be back on top quickly. Georgia has a built in advantage in that they have no real in-state comp for the talent. GaTech is simply not going to ever be that. Kirby to his credit has locked down that top in-state talent and uses the Saban method of my average coaching ability will be more than compensated by having far superior talent.

a at

This is true, and I don’t know if it’s worse to say they lost to a team with no coach or a team coached by greg Knox? (Low hanging fruit. I had to go for it. I have no clue if Knox would be a good head coach or not. But if he’s not that’s just one more reason to body f$u

UF had much better players overall. The second Travis went down we had zero chance to move the ball. Last yr was probably the least talented fsu team I have ever seen. I'm not saying Norvell is good or bad, honestly this yr will tell alot but I did not expect to win that game. If Emory doesn't try his hardest to give the game to us, it's a blowout. Your skill position players vs our was just not a fair fight. You could see it from the stands that the UF team was much bigger/faster.

Ask former Auburn coaches if they ever felt pressure from alumni. This is another thing that's not new.

Also, you aren't considering the huge NIL deal quarterback B got. Somebody is going to be unhappy, right?

Yep but it was crazy how Florida's Big 3 were losing so many top players to out of state schools. Might look back a few years to see how many of the Florida high school players in the top 150 left the state.
