Trump mass deportations

She is related to the Hazouri family. Tommy was an old school democrat like the folks who were conservative back in the day. And I’m sure you’re aware that the Lebanese/Syrians are an extremely powerful group here in Duval County. All related and if you’re friends with them you’re a friend for life.
Good folks, very smart and savvy, and about 95% of them are Republicans now.
Donna is anything but conservative. Did you get that email from the mayor's office? DEI to the core. 😂 There are a bunch of Lebonese families in Duval and have been for years. I don't think Eddie or Chuck Farah qualifies as conservative either, just a hunch.

To every immigrant living in Jacksonville—whether you’ve been here for decades or just arrived—I want you to hear this from your Mayor: You belong. You matter. You are loved. And we will continue to stand with you.

A few things right at the start:
  • JSO will be getting its funding for the mobile fingerprint machines they need.
  • Beyond that, this bill does nothing that federal and state law doesn’t already do.
  • There are elements of the bill that will likely draw the city into expensive lawsuits.
  • There is language in the bill that is hurtful and stoking fear in immigrants who are living and working here lawfully.
Now then - thank you all for being here. Let me recognize the women and men standing behind me:
  • Elder Lee Harris, Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church
  • Rabbi Jonathan Lubliner, the Jacksonville Jewish Center
  • Pastor John Allen Newman, the Sanctuary at Mount Calvary
  • The Very Reverend Kate Moorehead, St. Johns Cathedral
  • Pastor Kim McCissick, Bethel Baptist Church
  • Dr. Gladys Velarde, UF Health
  • Alex Sivar, City of Jacksonville Public Service Grant Council
  • Paola Parra Harris, attorney
  • Andrea Reyes, attorney
  • Vilerka Bilboa, attorney
  • Belkis Plata, attorney
I should also note that they are all here in their personal capacity today to show their support. In these polarized times, it takes courage and commitment for them to stand with me. I’m truly grateful for the work they do tirelessly and selflessly, guiding those who want a better life and want it here.

Immigrants are an important part of the beautiful mosaic that is Jacksonville. They contribute to our community. They pay 1.4 billion dollars in taxes every year. They work hard. They invest in our city. They are entrepreneurs. And the facts are clear - immigrants commit fewer crimes per capita than native-born Americans.

Like all of us, they also want violent criminals off the streets.

And JSO is doing an incredible job of doing just that.

Our violent crime statistics continue to fall and the Sheriff and the women and men of JSO are to be commended.

JSO has a difficult job to do and now, they’re being asked to do more. It has always been my position that we will provide the equipment and resources they need.

So they will receive the funding for the 25 fingerprint scanners that have been requested. I wish that alone had been all 2025-147 was.

But it’s not. Instead, it includes language that is hurtful and performative but not substantive.

There is nothing in this bill that isn’t already required by federal or state law. And in fact, the state law already carries a harsher penalty. So why would JSO need to arrest someone under a new local ordinance, when they already have a stronger state law?

Jacksonville has always followed the law, and we will continue to do so, as long as it’s constitutional. In fact, JSO has had an agreement with ICE since 2008. And sanctuary cities have been banned in Florida since 2019. Any suggestion to the contrary is intentionally misleading.

On top of it being redundant, this bill puts our local government in a lane where it doesn’t belong. Courts have repeatedly ruled that immigration enforcement is a function of the federal government.

By passing this ordinance, some of the same folks who like to lecture me about fiscal responsibility have put your tax dollars at risk of paying for an expensive lawsuit. When those cases inevitably come, I’ll remind our citizens how much money is being spent defending a law that does nothing the state and federal government isn’t already doing. Money that could have been spent on your streets, your sidewalks, your small businesses, and making your housing more affordable.

Right now, I’m hearing from people here lawfully who are terrified they’ll be swept up in all of this whether it’s meant for them or not. When people feel targeted, they are less likely to report crimes, seek medical help, send their children to school, or cooperate with police. That makes all of us less safe.

I want to be crystal clear: I do not believe this bill is necessary.

And I will not sign it. It will become law without my signature. Allowing it to become law without my signature does not impede law enforcement nor prevent them from doing their job in any way.

It does keep my name from being attached to something that creates a sense of fear in immigrants living here lawfully.
With gratitude,

Hicken was a bigger presence in local sports television 30 years ago. 😂 His ex-wife had nothing to do with that. Hicken's side kick Prosser is still somewhat a nobody and not even on TV locally anymore that I'm aware of. That being said, local news is a dying dinosaur and rarely watched since cable TV has be usurped by national news and podcasts since streaming became the new elephant in the room. The quality of TV news is so horrible that the news stations are hiring new graduates with college journalism degrees for peanuts. It's unwatchable, even in larger markets.

That aside, did you get the mayor's email too? She didn't sign the new city council bill, she let it happen without a signature. Democrats are truly pathetic.😂
Hicken is actually a p***k and if possible Prosser is an even bigger one.
I watch the local evening news in order to see what’s happening around town. But I switch it as soon as weather is over.
I never said Hicken’s ex made his career although there was at one point a “sympathy bump” for his ratings.
I did get the email from her office.

I got that memo too, and she is NOT a conservative but we both already knew that. She is sticking with the same backers her relative Tommy was with. She is doing this to prep for a run for Gov. and she needs TO BE DEFEATED.

As for the Farah brothers, I am not sure of their politics. Eddie was one of my younger brothers good friends at BK and my brother is to the right of Attila the Hun. I doubt they’re as leftist as John (Captain) Morgan, though.
