Why isn't he the QB? Serious question. That throw he had to Cleveland last night is one of the most impressive throws we've had here in years. Rolling right, full speed, under pressure, and he throws an absolute dime about 50 yards down field with the flick of the wrist. IF we had a competent offensive staff who invested time in his development as a QB he could be a dynamic dual-threat that would open it up for the entire offense.

He could certainly used more often in the wildcat and that could lead to more and more playing time.

I don't know if he was ever considered for the QB position by this staff, but I love the fact that future opponents now know they can't load the box; because this guy isn't just a run threat in the wildcat. His future is very bright if he stays out of trouble.

Also looks to me that Malik is likely our new starting RB. Perine just doesn't seem to have anywhere near the field vision as Davis, and Thompson is as slow as any SEC running back I've ever seen and doesn't block very well.

We want teams to focus on him, it would open it up for everyone else. Do you think Nuss can come up with creative ways to continually get him the ball? I mean so far all we've seen is wildcat and WR screens. Once teams get onto that, and they will, then what? That kid has the arm and the athleticism to be a dynamite QB who can win games himself. Sticking him only at receiver and letting him touch in 5 times a game maybe is a waste of his talent.

They let him throw it and he had awesome touches last night. Not sure how he could have been more integrated...it will continue.

No no no Toney should not be QB he is good where he’s at but he coy,d touch the ball more like on jet sweeps. If Toney was QB he would end up like Harris!!! No way

Just curious as to why he has to be grouped with Harris? Why not end up like Grier (minus the steroid deal) or a list of other athletic QB's of past and present college QB's.

The height? I believe Toney is a legit 6'0. Harris was 5'11 with the highest cleats in the equipment room.

He has nothing in common with Treon other than being short and black. Toney’s arm is legit. Strong, clean and quick release. The rest can be coached. Maybe not by this staff but a competent one could make him a legit threat back there.

Lol, I already knew this.

Was he recruited as a QB? If he came in as a QB and got moved, you have to think it wasn't working. Now, was this his failing or the staff's inability to recognize talent? Can't say.

I CAN say that one good throw does not a quarterback make.

I don't know that he is a full time QB but I certainly would give him a few "wildcat" snaps a game becuase he does have the ability to throw the ball so at least the defense would have to respect that.

I don't think he was ever really considered at QB. They had Franks and then brought Zaire in here and then LDR came back healthy, 4th string QB's don't get many reps in practice. It was mostly just lip service because coaches were talking about seeing him at receiver as soon as he stepped on campus.

That said, I agree one throw doesn't make a QB. But that one throw showed that with some development he could be a legitimate QB down the line. There are QB's in the NFL who couldn't make that throw. He was running full speed to his right didn't even get to set his feet and just flicked his wrist and launched it 50 yards downfield on the money. That's very impressive. I think its too late to make him a QB this season but if I was them I'd definitely have it in play to start spring ball. At least give a real look.

I agree with everything you said.

I just wonder if he feels his NFL future isn't at QB, and whether he would want to move.

It does make me wonder even more why we spent so much effort getting Zaire in here if a better guy was already on the roster.
