We are currently waiting in Gainesville to speak with the seven prospects who just wrapped up their official visits, but the Gators are certainly staying busy once those prospects exit campus.
As we previously reported, three additional official visitors are arriving at Florida today and will be staying until either Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. We highlight those prospects below.
When speaking with our guy @Joseph Hastings last weekend, four-star offensive tackle George Fitzpatrick said Ohio State, Florida, Oklahoma, Michigan and Oregon are in his top five.
Fitzpatrick officially visited the Buckeyes last weekend and is set to Michigan for this weekend. Florida is obviously June 14-16, Oklahoma the third weekend of the month, and Oregon is welcoming him to Eugene during the final weekend of June. His recruitment is pretty open amongst the top five schools, but Fitzpatrick has already taken two visits to Columbus.
We will see how strong of an impression John Hevesy and company make over the next few days.
As GT first reported yesterday afternoon, the Gators are scheduled to host Rivals250 offensive tackle, Drew Shelton, a Penn State commit.
The 6-foot-5, 275-pound Shelton previously took part in a virtual visit with Florida and speaks with Dan Mullen and offensive line coach John Hevesy several times a week. The level of familiarity is already high, but now Shelton is eager to get a taste of the Swamp and see everything in person.
"Just campus and getting to know the coaches," Shelton said when asked what he is looking forward to seeing in Gainesville. "Just getting a better understanding of what it's really about because it's hard to do over the phone. I just want to see it in person."
While he is locked in with the Nittany Lions, Shelton says Florida is the school pushing the hardest to flip him. He is set to officially visit Penn State next weekend, while the likes of Georgia, Notre Dame, Miami, Oklahoma and Florida State have offered as well.
"SEC football is different," Shelton said. "Big Ten is up there with the linemen, but SEC football is a different breed. Obviously, the SEC puts a lot of players in the draft every year, so that kind of grabs my eye a little bit."
Kaytron Allen, a long-time running back target from IMG Academy, was initially scheduled to arrive on campus tomorrow, but the visit was bumped up to today to join the other two.
The Gators are planning to sign two running backs in the 2022 class, with the 5-foot-11, 190-pound Allen being near the top of the program's wish list. He included the Gators in his top 10 back in January and has took part in a countless amount of Zoom calls as well.
Running backs coach Greg Knox serves as his go-to contact in Gainesville, with that tight-knit relationship being one of the primary reasons why UF continues to be under strong consideration in his recruitment.
"Everything has been going good (with UF)," Allen previously told Gators Territory. "Me and coach Knox, we're cool; we're tight. We talk every day. He's honest. He keeps it 100 with me. Just the communication. He (says he) likes my game and the way I play."
Penn State hosted him for an official visit last weekend, while Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, USC, Tennessee, Texas, Miami and Maryland are in his top group as well. No additional official visits are currently scheduled, and he told me on Saturday that all schools are on a level playing field, although I believe the Gators are in the top half of that group.
