I went back and looked at every non-ST recruit during the Urban Meyer era and ranked them based on what they did at UF. Here were my three broad buckets:
"Star" = All-SEC caliber or better
"Solid" = Starter or Contributor
"Other" = Little or no impact on the program
Here is how they netted out:
5-stars (84% success rate)
"Star" = All-SEC caliber or better
"Solid" = Starter or Contributor
"Other" = Little or no impact on the program
Here is how they netted out:
5-stars (84% success rate)
- Meyer recruited 19 5-stars
- 8 became Stars (42%) - e.g., Tebow, Spikes
- 8 became Solid (42%) - e.g., RoPo, James Wilson
- 3 were Other (16%) - Newton (note it is on what they did at UF), Brown, Debose (I didn't count his ST impact ... he was a 5-star because he was supposed to be an elite WR)
- Meyer recruited 78 4-stars
- 18 became Stars (23%) - e.g., RFN, Haden, Hernandez
- 32 became Solid (41%) - e.g., Trattou, Demps, Dunbar
- 28 were Other (36%) - e.g., Brandon Beal, Josh Portis, Jim Barrie
- Meyer recruited 31 3-stars
- 1 became a Star (3%) - Louis Murphy (a bit of a stretch since he didn't technically make All-SEC but I've rated him "All-SEC caliber")
- 12 became Solid (39%) - e.g., Burton, Troy Epps, Markihe Anderson
- 18 were Other (58%) - e.g., T.J. Pridemore, Brian Ellis, Mike McFarland
- Meyer recruited 3 2-stars
- 0 became a Star
- 1 became Solid (33%) - WPL
- 2 were Other (67%) - Bryan Jones and David Young
