Again, I'm not for overturning RvW but does the baby (or fetus to avoid the argument) not have any rights in your view?
At what point do they get rights IYO?
That's the anti-abortion-side argument, and it has no validity.
The reality is, women have always had, and will always have, abortions. Whether they are legal or illegal directly impacts their health and safety. But either way THEY ARE GOING TO HAPPEN. Since the are going to happen, how does the legality of the procedure involve rights? It's a straw man argument.
Now, do you want to discuss social programs designed to minimize the need for abortions? I'm all about that. I'd love to see real sex education in schools, a basic set in middle school and a more robust version in high school, not this abstinence only garbage. And not just sex education, parenting classes in high school. How to teach your child, how to interact with your child, anger management, and yes, the importance of the father in child rearing. Boys need to understand what it will mean to be a man and handle your responsibilities. We continue to let the mistakes of the parents become the mistakes of the children when they become parents. Also, a realization of the work involved with being a parent would go a long way to having these young people be more careful to use contraception.
I'd like to see more robust social programs to help low income families, and we need to eliminate the prejudice in social programs towards single mothers. All that has done is increase the prevalence of single parent homes.
I'd like to see better early education, one where mothers and children are in the classroom together (post COVID, of course), and not only are children learning, but mothers are learning how to teach their children. We will never be successful in teaching the children if they are in an effective, enriching environment for 6 hours a day but in a cold, indifferent environment the other 18. So we need to teach the moms (and the dads) as well as the kids.
We could also do a better job feeding the children, but I will admit we try hard in that area. The problem is getting them proper nutrition at home. We can stuff them full for 6 hours, but if they get no nutrition the other 18, it's not really working.
So see, there really is no argument about "unborn rights". Reality is reality. What we CAN do, however, is change the narrative and reduce the need for abortion (and what I've outlined is, frankly, a multi-generational effort), and that will reduce abortion. But you will never eliminate it, and discussing the possibility is a fool's errand.
