I actually agree with a lot of this. Doesn’t change my opinion but lags at least seems willing/capable of doing some things that mertz either can’t or won’t do. I’m by no means an authority on any level of fb but it just seems different with lagway. BIG risk to take imo to give him another year tho. Too much risk for my blood as Napier has other deficiencies besides qb

Didn't Lags break the all time passing yards for a UF freshman in a game in his only start? I doubt he thinks the offensive play calling is the issue. Sure didn't seem like Billy handcuffed him or anything. He let him sling it. Even the throw this past week the Dike. Mertz isn't that kind of risk taker.

I certainly can’t/wont argue that. I’m team new guy and would like to find out but would also be cool with lagway getting more opportunities…such as maybe letting lagway have ALL the second half of ucf or at least going for the jugular and giving him 2/3 of the second half

I have no idea if Napier can right this ship. I'm hoping he can and I'm rooting for him. I want to see a coach get 3 full years of his recruits, where they are made up of true freshman thru true juniors. Napier has only had 2 full classes so far. I want 1 more.
I hope I'm wrong but I think our fans are in for a rude awakening when the next coaching search starts. Many laughed at Tennessee before they settled with Huepel. I think we might be headed down that same path where coaches use us to get raises but don't want to come here without a President in place and a lame duck AD.... we will see

Came in after his bowl game. Had about 4 weeks to recruit and that's taking over for Mullen who quit recruiting after the Alabama loss his final year. Mullen did us no favors. He left a pile of garbage behind that would make it tough on any coach. The locker room culture was a mess, he quit on the program etc.

Last year it was the special teams everyone cried about and now we are one of the best. He fixed it. He fires CRay and Chaos who were lazy recruiters and brought in high energy good coaches. Now it's time to address the OL and DCoords after the season. But 1 more adjustment there and I think we have what it takes to have a winning program again

If he fixes one thing every offseason, we might have a winning record by 2035.

With analytics playing a huge part of the game I think fans miss how much the new clock rules have changed the game. You can win by getting first downs and letting the clock run these days. If a team only gets the ball an avg of 4 or 5 times in a half then you stop them twice when you're up 3 scores and they wont be able to catch up because of the clock. Vandy did it, Army did it to Tennessee. When we do it, fans get mad. Same fans that didn't like Muschamp winning with defense

That makes no sense. His play offensive schemes are ancient. No recruits want to play in that boring offense

We should be so lucky to end up with a coach like Heupel. He's never had a losing record at UT, which is something that Napier cannot say. He's 31-13 in year four now. I'd take that all day long and 9 times on Sunday.

I think it’s a must to be able to “agree to disagree” respectfully. I don’t always do that effectively but I continue to try. I don’t necessarily disagree with ur premise of getting 3 full years, but things can also be fluid due to varying circumstances. In this case, I’ve seen enough other deficiencies to offset getting 3 full years to make my decision. Some of it I might not even be able to eloquently describe/explain other than to say “my eyes don’t lie.” I worry the one more class u would like to see would actually be a hindrance to his success and not give the juice needed due to the perception that is surrounding the program.
I too have some reservations about what’s to come (or not) from another coaching search but for me, I’m convinced continuing to try what, imo, is not working, is worse than trying something else. I agree that Tenn settled for heupel but despite the ark game, Tenn seems to have some bravado within the program and fanbase and that’s from what heupel has brought. I’d “settle” for that right now. I hope FLORIDA can right the ship, just not with Napier and here’s the best way I can explain why. I’m a school teacher and the theory when dealing with youth is one negative thing said requires three positive things to overcome the negative. Napier can go 9-3 and I’ll be happier than a dog with 2 d*cks, but will it be enough to cancel out all the bad taste I’ve acquired? I’m not sure but right now, I don’t even want to find out with HIM. However, I have no choice but to find out because I have no control over anything so I’ll cheer my butt off and if he pulls off a miracle…fantastic! My feelings toward Napier will not impact my fanhood but I’m ready for a new era.

I think many would argue we’re effectively still in year 1 of Billy right now, given the lack of improvement and similar issues…at least in the coaching change scenario we might end up with a competent coaching staff.

The right coach can win quickly and we've all seen that. Brian Kelly won 10 games in year one at LSU. Lane Kiffin won 10 games in his first full year (year one was covid shortened) and Curt Cignetti has already won 6 games in year one at Indiana. I'm sure there are other examples. A good coach can and does expect to win immediately. Anyone asking for multiple years is doing so in the hopes that they can figure it out as they go. That's not the kind of coach we need.

Personally, I don't see how Billy deserves another shot. He crowned himself OC and did probably the bare minimum to ever find a legit one. After the offensive showing against Miami and A&M he should've been canned on the spot.

Merts gives you a chance to call the entire playbook. Lags probably gives you a quarter of it.

Both offer something different but I do appreciate Mertz willingness to work with DJ and help him along

Do you honestly believe that? We got the #1 QB in the nation we got Tank Hawkins, Mizell and EW3 who are electric play makers. We got Badger and Dike through portal and we have one of the top WR classes currently committed to go along with a stable of backs....but you claim nobody wants to play for Napiers boring offense..........ok

Who do yall want to hire the next coach? Because the fire Napier crowd is also fire Stricklin crowd. But I doubt an interim President would fire the AD. So the new President will want hire the new AD and that AD will want to pick his coach. So seriously who makes this next hire?

I think we start with finding a new President first and letting the season play out. Then the new President can make some changes if they feel fit.

People want Napier fired but they don't want SS to pick the next coach. Seems like we got ourselves a mess that no established coach is going to want a part of
