Tennessee hires Jim Chaney as OC

Makes no sense to me. Not sure why UT wants him. I think he is just an average OC myself.

What did you guys think about him? He seems to be very up and down as an OC through the years.
I'm a fan as we improved offensively each of his years but I would guess that I'm in the minority. We were 18th nationally in total offense and fairly balanced. This year was also his only year in Athens where he wasn't starting a true freshman at QB.
Most of my buddies are excited hoping we're going to open it up more. From what I hear he would still be in Athens if Smart really wanted it. The main thing is that Sam Pittman is still our OL coach.

Will Georgia look to promote from within or do they have a list of candidates outside of the program?

Wasn't the style of offense the reason Justin Fields transferred?

Wasn't this the same guy who called plays under Dooley at UT? Fired by Brett B at Arkansas?

Unless UT stockpiles top 3 offense talent for 2-3 years recruiting wise I just don't see it working.

Yes you are correct. UT waited I think about 6 weeks and this is who they got?? Never been that impressed with him myself. Just more of that same at UT. I don’t see this working out for them again as usual.

His offenses are pretty crazy pre-Georgia with a lot of passing some years and a big dropoff there some years.

I remember with that kid Bray at Tenn they slung it around quite a bit but the offense was too one dimensional. Smart probably forced him to lean on the run mostly at Georgia.

Don't act as if they actually have a choice. Look at last years national debacle of a head coaching search for them. They can't do anything right when it comes to coaches. Amazingly, every single year since they fired Philapotamus, they keep downgrading at the coaching position. Year after year I wonder, who could they hire that is worse than Derek Dooley and BAM! They find the guy. Who is dumber than Butch Jones? Leave it to Tennessee to find the guy.

Personally I hope they stick with Mr. Potatohead as head coach for the next decade. He MIGHT get them to a bowl game after 10 years the way they are going. Right now he's got them rolling around in his palm with the promise that the first 2-3 years are going to suck because he's suffering with Butch Jones's players while he tosses those kids under the bus for each and every loss. If he makes it to year 4, I wonder what the excuse will be then because the facts stand that talent isn't their problem.

For that matter, how long before these kids keep looking at that program seeing how the players are blamed for every loss and tossed onto the train tracks to protect the inept coaches and administrators. I don't see that behavior happening anywhere else, but it has been the status quo in Knoxville for the past 13 months and the fans are quite ok with it.

It wouldn't shock me if it ends up being Kiffin since they have worked around each other. He would probably see it as a better spring board to try and get another Power 5 job again also.
Joey Freshwater isn’t leaving a head coaching gig at FAU to be an OC for a guy that thinks the forward pass is for losers.

And I thought for a minute that Kiffy boy got the boot(won't be anything new with his 5-7 record) at FAU.

You never know but most talking heads think he will just let the QBs coach call the plays now and remove the Co-OC label.

Kiffin May be an offensive genius but has there been any place where he didn’t burn his bridges? Hiring him seems like a risky move, even as oc.

I hope so too. Major Appleseed is terrible. I was sick at the thought of Chump bringing him here
Yep. Major Applewhite and Coley are both terrible OCs. I’d love for any of our rivals to make those guys OC.

It’s interesting he’s complaining about players... didn’t Jones recruit pretty well? It seemed like he at least brought a few solid classes in there. Maybe the thing that has most impressed me about Mullen was how he was able to not just win, but run an effective offense after nearly a decade of futility on that side of the ball. I know we complain a lot about Franks, but I don’t think there was a more improved player in the country. He still made some mistakes and missed some open receivers, but by the end of the year he was playing pretty well. Not just managing the game but making plays to win games. A lot of that credit goes to the OL, and the RBs being a huge weapon helped that process, but that’s what great coaches do. I think it’s really telling when coaches throw their players under the bus. Like it or not they chose that school and they’re what you have.

How would you have enjoyed being a Junior or Senior on UT's roster this year sitting there and watching since Day 1 that Mr. Potatohead was hired that YOU the players were the problem of why they went 4-8 in 2017 and that Pruitt was going to fix the ship by bringing in HIS players and getting rid of you as fast as he could. Each and every loss in 2018, he sold that as YOU the players being crap and not playing and not caring about Tennessee and blah blah blah. The worst part of that is the fan base by and large is so stupid THEY BOUGHT IT. Even to this day they are all up in arms about having to get great recruiting classes to fix the talent gap, as if there ever was one. The only team that legitimately has more talent than UT did in 2018 was UGLY, but that's exactly what they placed all the blame for 5-7 on. You the players. Many of these kids grew up in Tennessee and were fans of the school all their lives, it was their dream to play there, now they have been made the villains and scapegoats for the past 2 years. I gotta be honest I wouldn't have much motivation to suit up and play my best for such a school. It'll only be 1 or 2 more years when the fans finally realize that their clown coach never had a talent problem, but that they as a fanbase have a coach problem. When was the last time UT could honestly say that the head coach wasn't the problem at their school? Philopatamus that's when. To hell with Tennessee, I hope they lose every game in 2019. They deserve nothing more than that.

Sorry, I meant the only team in the SEC EAST that had more talent than UcheaT was UGLY and I honestly believe that. We were on par or below based on what little McElnuts did in recruiting during his time here and everyone else below us.

Yeah, I’m with you. It would have been a huge slap in the face to have the mediocrity of the program blamed on the guys who have had to suffer for the past 3-4 years. They messed up when they got rid of fat Phil. I don’t think they’ve made a decent move regarding coaching ever since. I mean, I can see why you’d take a shot on jones, but they stuck with him way too long. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a school mess up a coaching hire like they did last year. I’ll admit I wanted a “splashy” name and was a little disappointed we didn’t get frost or Kelly, but after seeing how they screwed up, I was more than happy to have Mullen, and obviously lm thrilled with the hire now, esp when I consider that, had we hired anyone else, it was likely Tennessee would have gotten him, and we would be in a much different situation.

Just think, at a mere 3.846 million per year, a low salary by SEC standards, Tennessee ended up paying Coach Potatohead 769,200 $ for EACH WIN in 2018. I'm sure he earned every penny of it.

I shouldn't judge though... Nebraska paid Scott Frost 5 million $ this year for a wonderful 4 wins....

They dont have great players....they dont have bad players either. I juat witnessed good players with crap coaching all year at fsu. Granted we have very big deficiences at certain position but if Jimbo was still there we probably win 7 or 8 games.

Florida will always be our conference’s sleeping giant. When someone wakes up that little program in that big, talented state, there will be hell to pay. I’d prefer we just not poke the sleepy bear.” — Bear Bryant :D

If the past two weeks are any indicator, the sleepy giant in Gainesville might be coming out of hibernation. Finally, under Dan Mullen, the program appears to have found itself again. Florida fans were right to leave Atlanta with holiday cheer and great hope for what 2019 and the future beyond it may hold. By NSD, things should be looking even better... ;)

On the bright side, at least for Gator fans, the UGly buttsniffers lost:

OC Jim Chaney to OC at tennis-sea.
DC Mel Tucker to HC Colo.
-----
Fr 5 Star QB Justin Fields, xfer to tOSU
Fr TE Luke Ford xfer to Illinois (HS #3 TE)
-----
WR Riley Ridley to E-D NFL - 44 for 570, 9 TD's (#1 WR)
WR Mecole Hardmon E-D NFL- 34 for 532, 7 TD's (#2 WR)
All SEC RB Elijah HolyField E-D NFL - 1,018 yds, 7 TD's
TE Isaac Nauta E-D NFL (VoJo's Kryptonite, glad they're all gone)
:D:p:D

This is the kind of talk that gets you banned at Volquest for 100 years. You know, facts.

Georgia promoted Coley to be their OC!! LMAO. And Miami names Dan Enos as their OC. Both are terrible OCs.
