And eggs here dropped $1 from 5.97 to $4.97 at Aldis and $4.20 equivalent at BJs (60 eggs per pack)
The savings based on the numbers released by the admin would have my eggs at ~$1.80.
I am NOT blaming Trump but I am not happy that I am not yet seeing the lower prices at the pump or store.
It's about leverage.
Aren't you in consulting? Let's say you are, and lets say you have one client who is paying you 6 figures a year. And has since 2020.
If your only client comes up to you and says 'Hey Brad, we've been reviewing your contract offer and we can only pay $60,000 a year from now on."
If that happens, you are screwed. Because that ONE client has leverage over you. Same thing Trump has over China right now.
The alternative is just do nothing and slowly let China completely absorb the US and we slowly do a death march into a Chinese gulag.
Which seems to be preferable to some over admitting that Trump may know what he's doing.
I agree it is about leverage. My concern is that Trump is overestimating the amount of leverage we have, particularly over the Chinese.

Our market accounts for 30 percent of global consumption so there’s that. But we’re in debt up to our eyeballs, government and consumers. And losing $10 trillion (and counting) out of the markets is not going to help consumption. By the way they hold 700 billion of our debt. And treasury yields are going crazy.
I’m sure they take our military seriously but I don’t think they’re afraid of us. Our own war games have shown we can’t sustain a naval battle in the pacific. I’m sure the Chinese are aware.
Europe needs energy from us but the Chinese don’t.
So I’m not sure starting full on economic war with China is in our interests, but here we are.

All your comments presume that collapsing global trade was the only option. Obviously there are infinite ways this could have been approached.
I will say if the ultimate plan is to basically declare national bankruptcy then it’s being well executed.
I think it is due to the pipeline in both cases. The gas was refined at higher prices, and the new hens are just starting to produce eggs. When the price of oil drops, the oil companies start cutting back on production. Remember when spot oil futures were negative during covid? I was paying 1.25 a gallon at BJs, they weren't paying me to fill up.
The other nations are cutting off their noses to spite their faces by not negotiating their tariffs on us now. It's now a matter of who can take the body blows better and still remain standing. They thought Trump was bluffing. They FA, now everyone is FO, including us.
My comments presume that Trump knows more about the world economy than you do.
We were told that we MUST help Ukraine because if we did not, Russia would steamroll across Europe then the rest of the world.
China's already doing that and has been for decades. Yet the same people telling us that we must stop Russia, also tell us to leave China alone, we are overreacting!

My guess is that he is using the 90 day pause to negotiate better deals without the anxiety caused by keeping the tariffs in place. The key term is pause. I think we get better deals on trade during this pause and if so the pause becomes permanent. Trump had to leave them in place for long enough to show that he is serious. I may be wrong, but I think this will be a big plus in a few months.

This morning it was US vs China. Thanks to one bold move by Trump, now it's the world vs China.
And China is the villiain. The rest of the world wants fair trade.

Trump folded because the bond market was collapsing, in part due to large scale selling by the countries we were tariffing (Japan most prominently), so we found the limits of that particular strategy.
