Talent Index for 2021:

1. Georgia
2. Bama
3. Clemson
4. OSU
5. LSU
6. Oklahoma
7. Florida
8. USC
9. Oregon
10. Texas A&M
11. Notre Dame
12. Miami

Not a big change from last season for most teams where we were # 7 also. It shows we must be doing alright in the transfer portal and in not losing too many highly ranked players coming out of high school.

Better than I anticipated and I do follow it overall - it's the best metric for team total talent, taking in the current roster with transfers etc.

We're not that far back in terms of overall talent - I trust Mullen to figure out the rest. This will change if the OL sucks haha!

I just wonder if we can knock off Bama etc. without improving some - top 5 at least. Clemson was able to win a championship around where we are but had the QB and DTs that really took over games. It can be done but it will be tough to do it.

it's conjecture but I think so - we were only off 6 points last year.

But we were dominated at the lines. That Big 12 style isn't going to win many championships especially if you can't stuff the run. I do realize that was a one year deal though as far as our offensive play calling. I hope our O line is better than I think they are this year.

We seem to be doing better than our recruiting rankings.

Correct - it never felt like we could get on top. The point is even with all of htat - we only lost by 6. So the difference may not be that much.

A talent I de. Isn't about coaching.

we do have do have 2 five star running backs on the roster.

Look at the top 4 or 5 the past few years and you have most of the playoff spots I think. Mullen must be doing alright in the portal for us to be # 7 however in this index.
Oh yeah, that's why originally this surprised me a bit. I follow recruiting and everything - would have thought overall we'd have been more like 10-12 range. The transfer portal has been a godsend for Mullen and he's absolutely cleaned up with it.

With talent levels being this close I like our chances most any Saturday.

In addtion - I think we have like 54 total 4 and 5 stars on the roster. We have plenty of talent.

The only concern I have is the Oline - really the only roster spot that isn't that high on the star charts...but most these guys have been here 3 years or so. If you buy into the fact that Mullen is the best developer out there, and I do then the Oline should be good this year both in pass and running. If so - this team has all the ingredients to be really really good.

Just lacking a fundamentally sound scheme on defense.

So fsu was 13th?

Still early but probably less than 2 weeks to know. Maybe if certain things happen we could be a team in the SECCG playing for a spot in the playoffs.
Right now it looks to me more like we are building towards a breakthrough season next year. This is the year where Richardson wrests away the starting role from Jones and gets a lot of much needed experience, while Grantham finally wears out Mullen's patience and we get a new guy in who can coach up a defense.

The more I look at the breakdown of the tape of the game the more discouraged I get. Not even thinking about the passing offense our defense was out of position on a bunch of plays but FAU failed to take advantage of most of them. If that mess isn't cleaned up quickly Bama will have RBs reaching our safeties practically untouched and since they are deer antler velvet enhanced it might look like a bowling ball rolling over the pins quite a few times.
