McCoy said he's joining the team on scholarship after McElwain offered him the opportunity when he visited his office. Initially, once McCoy received his hardship waiver to play immediately, he sent a message out to Mike Summers about his interest in joining the Gators and playing close to home. The interest was mutual, since according to McCoy, Summers had recruited him back when he was a junior in high school.
McCoy said he also got some interest from UCF and FAU. He plays on playing both center and guard for the Gators.
