Not sure if everyone heard about this game, but it was quite the bad look for STA all around.
Game being played at STA.
4th and 12 with 1:30 to go in the game. Cocoa Up by 2.
QB scrambles and picks up 11, scoreboard shows 0 timeouts left for STA. Cocoa takes a knee and STA calls a timeout. Ref throws a penalty on Cocoa coach for arguing about the timeout situation.
2nd and 28, Cocoa takes another knee and STA hits the QB late and gets a 15 yard penalty. (Not an automatic first down apparently.) But the ref never starts the clock so Cocoa takes the 3rd down snap with 1:20 left on the clock. Cocoa pumts the ball with about 40 seconds on the clock.
On the punt return, STA has 12 guys on the field and returns it to the Cocoa 37. Next play they throw it all the way inside the 5 and kick a game winning field goal.
The Broward county officials issued an apology but declined to overturn the outcome of the game.
Keep in mind we are talking a top 15 program in the country going up against a public school.
This would have by far been the biggest win in school history.
