So, you won't sing the national anthem, but you'll play for the national team at the world cup? That makes a lot of sense.
What doesn't make sense to me is what IDIOT allows this to happen? Who chooses which players are on the team to begin with and is tacitly allowing these clowns to drag our country through the gutter with their actions? In the military, you're not allowed to protest or do anything such as this that would insult or embarrass the country while in uniform or in service. I consider olympic athletes and members of a nation's sport's teams to be under the same guidelines. You lose a bit of your freedom when you are representing a country, as well you should because it's not YOUR opinion that you are presenting to the world, you are there to represent your country.
I'd rather have a national team that represents this country properly and loses (especially in something as despicable as soccer), than one that wins and insults each and ever American while on the world stage.

I wouldn't quite hold them to a military standard, but I agree that it's not an unreasonable ask for members of a national team that they stand for the national anthem.
Although, reading the article, it seems to state that she stands for the anthem, she just doesn't sing or put her hand over her heart. So it sounds a little bit like much ado about nothing, either whipped up by her as an attention seeker, or by Fox News as bait for the Trump enthusiasts.
What? Just because I think Trumpers are easily led around by the nose and susceptible to manipulation, due most probably to lower brain function, doesn't make my statement any less objectively true.
The article said she "stood silently while her teammates sang" the anthem. You think that's a legitimate source of outrage?
And, for the record, I do think it's ridiculous to play for a national team in these circumstances and simultaneously protest the anthem. I just don't think that not singing or putting her hand over her heart qualifies as a protest.

But that picture isn’t from the current World Cup, correct? That’s from before, right? The story says she stood but didn’t sing. That’s my point on the story to begin with. It’s intended to confuse people and generate outrage.
And I agree on her. She sounds like a clown. What kind of protest is it if you’re not willing to sacrifice anything? That she’s willing to shut up and fall in line in order to play in the World Cup tells you all you need to know about the strength of her conviction.

For as liberal as sadgator is...he respects what that flag stands for, as we all should. If you don’t like something, stand up and make a positive change, that flag represents your freedom to do that.

As sadgator said above, Rapinoe has absolutely no idea why she is protesting, why her “protest” is linked to her disrespect for the American flag, or what vague “injustice” could be remedied such that she would begin to show proper respect for the flag. Her “protest” of the flag is juvenile misplaced nonsense.
