We could play OU, Georgia, LSU and Bama besides FSU and all our other Rivals in one year. Would a 10-2 Gator team go to a playofff over say a 12-0 or 11-1 UCF team? A

Yes and you absolutely should with that schedule. Assuming we aren’t still on USF’s level.

It depends. A 1 loss UCF team isn't going anywhere but an undefeated team with a few decent games will fight like hell to get in over a more deserving 2 loss team.

I think divisions and the schedule is going to change quite a bit if this ends up happening.

By the time this happens, they will have expanded the CFP to include 64 teams most likely. Nobody thought it was going to stay at 4 when it was first introduced anyways.

Its sounding like they want to go to 12 after this now instead of 8. That would give at least one spot to the non-power conferences and almost assure a 2 loss SEC team would make it in.

LSU moves to the SECe, with OK & TX joining the SECw, geography matters.
Teams with at least a Conf. division championship in BOLD.

SEC-E

Florida

LSU

IF they want more E-W balance, it would be okay to put VU in the West, with MsSt or maybe Ark going to the East.
Putting either TX or OK in the East is just geographically STUPID....

I agree that Texas nor Oklahoma should be put in the East. But Missouri shouldn't have been either. Based strictly on geography, the East should be South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Auburn & Alabama. But I'll bet that's not the way it plays out.
LSU is west of both Mississippi schools and are pretty much in line north/south with Arkansas & Missouri.
Who knows how it will work out or even if it will come to pass. Fun to conjecture.

That 4 team pod system seems like the best option and it keeps the games you have to keep every year like UF-GA, Auburn - Bama, OK - TX, Bama - TN and Miss - MSU. Bama would have the easiest pod however with how teams are now. The toughest schedule most years would come down to which teams you catch from the other pods rotation however.

Forget East/West

Let's go with...

North
UK
Mizzou
Oklahoma
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Arkansas
Bama
SCar

South
Florida
UGA
Auburn
LSU
A&M
MSU
Texas
Ole Miss

Save for Bama and OU the north wouldn't be powerful.

I would strongly consider adding:

TX-OK-OKSt to the SEC,,, while moving UF to the ACC....

Let them deal with the Birmingham SEC home office BS....

I never like just 4 teams...nobody even cares about the bowl games unless it's your team....12 seams about right...but they will probably expand to a wild card round eventually. Either way a real playoff system is something I've been hoping for my whole life and we're about to get it...wooohooo!

Missouri is already in the East...not a lot difference but TX and OU's fans will travel. Those are big time football schools with money.

BAMA/ AU both to the EAST. I know it would be a bloodbath every year… but iron sharpens iron. UF, UGA, USC, TENN, VU, UK, AU, UA SEC EAST = MURDERER’S ROW.

With the new SEC, we are going to have to change our expectations a bit. How often will anybody go undefeated in conference play with that type of schedule every year? We will likely have to take a more NFL-type approach in that undefeated seasons almost never happen. Fortunately, the playoff expansion to 12 teams, coupled with the insanity of the SEC, would make a 10-2 SEC team a serious candidate for a spot, and an 11-1 team a lock, regardless of what happened in the SECCG. I could see years where 4 or possibly even 5 SEC teams make the playoffs.

If the SEC goes with a pod system and each pod is balanced out correctly having at least two historically strong programs, most seasons you’ll get at least four teams in a 12 team playoff. The strength of schedule with these additions takes the SOS argument to a new level. Two losses and you win your division or even come in second place but your only losses were to Oklahoma and Alabama, you instantly look better than most conference champions outside the SEC.

I've got the names for the 4 Pods....

I guess it would be a regional pod?

So like

North:
Bama
Tennessee
Kentucky
Vandy

East:
Florida
Georgia
South Carolina
Auburn

South:
LSU
Ole Miss
Miss State
Arkansas

West (the Big4?):
Oklahoma
Texas
TAMU
Missouri?

meh. Okay then what we have a 4 team play off for the conference title?

what a cluster.

I think they would be set up like the one scenario showed to keep all must have yearly games together in the pods. I think the must have games were Bama - Tenn and Auburn, FL - GA, OK - TX and MSU - Ole Miss. I may have missed another one they had listed as a must have yearly game.

Yours is close to doing that.

Bama
O.U.
Texas
L.S.U.
Texas A&M
Georgia
Auburn
Ole Miss - I really like their coach.

Sad part is that Bama would probably go undefeated or 11-1 still. That would leave…

Florida
Tennessee
Arkansas
Vanderbilt
South Carolina
Mississippi St.
Missouri
Kentucky.

Still better than the Big 10 or A.C.C.

if location matter then bama and ua are in the east and mizz and lsu are in the west
or does like you said balance matter .. can you can not put bama uga au uf in the same div
pods do not seem popular yet .. but like another poster said .. wait and see how all of this plays out as far as post season first .. may be interesting ..

Paco,

You seem to have good sources of info - so questions.

Texas & Oklahoma will join SEC by 2025 or so, what divisions will they be in or will we go to 4 pods ?

Many projections for pod alignments; is that definite ?

Pod A: Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina
Pod B: Alabama, Auburn, Tennesee, Vanderbilt
Pod C: LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M
Pod D: Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma

What happens to these two games UF has already scheduled ?

2030: vs. Texas, at Florida State
2031: at Texas, vs. Florida State
