So Jeff Sessions just appointed Rod Rosenstein to lead a task force

Let's play a hypothetical: Let's say Rosenstein is on Team Trump and has been all along.

Where does that leave Robert Mueller?

Remember, Trump met with Mueller on May 16th, 2017. The White House confirmed this meeting, and stated that it was an interview for the open FBI Director position (Comey had been fired 2 weeks earlier. Rosenstein wrote the letter to Trump suggesting he fire Comey).

Problem: Mueller couldn't have taken the FBI Director position again. The law states that a person can only serve one 10-year term as FBI Director, and Mueller had already served from 2001-2013. Obama went to Congress in 2011 and got them to approve a 2-year extension for Mueller, and they granted it, but stated at the time that it was a one-time deal and Mueller couldn't serve again.

So Trump met with Mueller on May 16th, 2017 to discuss a job Mueller could not take.

The next day, Rosenstein names Mueller Special Counsel.

Curiouser and curiouser....
