I don’t care if he did. I’d rather have Mullen than that ass.
Napier over Kelly for me all day long.
Brian Kelly is a better football coach. He’s proven it and has a better resume. With that being said I wouldn’t want that guy at UF either.
The question seems prématuré at 7 games in.....AND there's other factors to consider.
UF's biggest issues wasn't about losses....although those losses were certainly à direct conséquence of it. The biggest issues was the culture of the program rapidly becoming more like the Miami Hurricanes AND the passive/lazy mentality towards recruiting.
If the tenure of Napier doesn't result in conference championships and he's let go after 5 years, I have no doubt that the program will still be in a ton better shape going forward compared to how Mullen left it. To that end, I'm thankful to Napier.
I'm not convinced every coach, including Kelly, would be able to get UF to do a 180 degree change in direction.
I do have my criticism of Napier, as stated elsewhere. However, he's not necessarily a desired hire, but à needed hire.
Can LSU make the same claim? Does beating à very bad UF team make their program differently than what it was last year? Only LSU fans can answer that if we are talking about satisfaction of needs, not wants only.

We need players across the board. I understand the current staff took over a broken team but their scheming hasn't been very impressive particularly mid-season.
I just don't see Richardson ever getting to be a really good QB. He isn't cool under pressure and he doesn't have much touch. I don't know how much more coaching can improve that.

I'll accept more experienced without question, but "better" is a tough call when you consider one still has his best days ahead of him and the other has his best days behind him.
I hate to use the turd burgler as a reference, but Smart has proven that you don't need to be a great coach to have success, you need to be a great recruiter and have the resources to fill your staff with great coaches. I hope Napier becomes a great coach, but I'll certainly accept decent coach that wins titles.

Well, our staff is NOT filled with great coaches, its filled with SunBelt coaches and it shows as our defense is WORSE than under Grantham.
Our passing game looks like its designed by a middle school coach.
you look great in the SunBelt when you find better talent.
but coaching wise, BK is light years ahead of Billy.
But like Paco, I don’t want him. But to compare, they aren’t close.
Most of our coaches are pretty good. There are a few that need to be re-evaluated.

How many OC's did Georgia go through before they managed to find an offense?
If you consistently bring in elite talent, and have the funds to pick and choose your coaches, you'll get there.
Having 2 weeks off here should tell us a lot. Despite being outgunned by Georgia we can't have a defense that lost. Curious also to see the plan with Richardson on offense. I just have a feeling playing mostly zone against them since our LBs can't cover one on one might get pretty ugly again.
LSU simply has the better talent due to whatever remnants of their recruting apparatus still remain. Something that UF didn't have until Napier came along. Guys, you have to remember that BN is dealing with Dan Mullen's flunkies already. These kids are still scarred by Mullen leaving them. Heck, it even shows in their performance. This reclamation project can't be completed overnight. It takes time to get the stinch of the previous coach out of a program like ours. But we do have a guy that can pull it off. We now have the #9 recruting class inthe nation per Rivals.

You have to admit that defense is really bad. They are more confused against the pass than they were under Grantham when playing zone at least.
Napier will be a good football coach while BK already is one. JMO.
As I've stated before we have guys playing on defense that would not start for any other sec team, and in some cases wouldn't even make the 3 deep roster. Mullen recruiting was not good and it caught up with him and we are suffering from that now. Mullen is a great coach just a lousy recruiter. In CFB that doesn't work any longer. Better to be an average coach and great recruiter.
I think our DBs match up with a lot of teams talent wise Dean not withstanding. Someone like Marshall would easily be plug n play at a top SEC team but yet with this zone they are playing he is lost many times. I want to look at that podcast this week to see what is going on but I think previously it was shown our LBs (including Miller) cant cover anyone. I wonder if they are expecting the DBs to run a too complicated zone because of that or something. They need to simplify things if its too confusing to the players.

Me too, Kelly is 60 been coaching for 30 years so yeah he is a better coach NOW. Billy was hired to rip down every single brick in the program and rebuild it from the ground up. Billy is younger and the intent is for him to not only rebuild the program, but be around a LONG time to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Kelly is not a long time hire.
Without #15, it would be much worse than it is. We need talent on defense. We have ONE stud on defense...the rest are either raw with experience, or they are ham and eggers. UF usually has 3-4 downright STUDS on each side of the ball. I never really hammer former coach's....however the way this team is playing is 100% on Dan Mullen being a LAZY recruiter. Our 3 and 4 stars are ones other teams passed on for the most part.
The defense is the same for the past 3 years. This is not on the new staff...it is on Mullens/Grantham's POOR recruiting. Just my .01cent
