Slavery Reparation

North America was a melting pot long before 1492.
Nobody evolved in N.A., everyone (including what's incorrectly referred to a 'native' Americans) came here at some point in time. (my own tribe began arriving in the 1600's) IMO, everyone born here is a native American now...

BTW, those earlier Americans were busy raping, killing, and enslaving each other in competing raids, long before the Europeans began coming here in mass in the 15 and 16 hundreds. And while some of those Indian tribes were mostly peaceful, Mother Teresa didn't come from any of those Indian tribes....

Right now, every one of us (early Americans, Europeans, Africans, Asians, and everyone else) depends on each other to make America work and remain FREE for ALL. So either get with the program under the Constitution, or else GTF out....

Your reparations will be paid in gold-pressed latinum.
Well darn, I was hoping for a boat load of STAR-BUCKS.... 😁

Most African Americans have a fair amount of European DNA that goes way back.

In many cases, all the way back to their white, slave-owning, great-great-great-etc grandfathers who had children with his slaves.

The circumstances may be unpleasant to think about, but most African Americans probably have more “slave-owner” DNA than whites in the US.

I can't believe you are even defending the concept while at the same time claiming it's a dumb idea. Dude, you are lost.
@BSC911 is just desperate for attention. He has another 25,000 posts on the college football soundoff board in just the last 4 years.

He says anything that he thinks will get a reply. Pretty sad, but we are apparently his social circle.

Bingo. White liberals never want to address that.
Bingo, part 2.
Here's another: if you want reparations, and let's say it is legitimate, did the US push into the countries to get the slaves? No. (neither did England to the prior point) We were a British colony up until 1776 at the earliest and 1789 when the constitution was ratified.

Go call Harry, Megan and William.

That is an interesting point. Were all of these due to rape? Vast majority?
Also, what percent of landowners had slaves in the south? 1%? 3%?

And again, the only reason the North was against slavery was because it only benefited the South. The North tried to use slaves for agriculture, but they saw that their climate and soil didnt lend itself to agriculture. At the same time, the South was finding out it ha both the soil AND climate for agriculture.

The North didn't want slaves to be legal because Northers feared the balance of economic power would move to the South if they could use slaves to produce agriculture and the North could not. I'm sure there were many in the North that opposed slavery on moral grounds, but the overarching reason the North opposed was simply because it didn't want the South to get an upper hand on them economically.
Nikole Hannah-Jones would likely (if not ironically) agree with this argument.

So what does this mean then? All of the US is complicit?

About 1.4% of the total population in the US owned slaves in 1860.

If you only count the population in the areas of the country where slavery was legal, approximately 5% of that population owned slaves. But if you're going to blame white America period, it sort of makes sense to consider the 1.4% number. JMO

Very good statistic. Would you say that this was the average ownership % (roughly, give or take 50-100 basis points?)

If so, and to be clear, and at the risk of channeling my inner-Karl Marx (lol), we have a class/wealth argument not a race one. African kinds and war lords, sold to merchant oligopolies, who sold to large and wealthy plantation owners who used the government to protect their interests to drive mega-economic rents based on greatly reduced cost of labor (yes, there was overhead, but no direct wages).

Oh boy … @BSC911 told me this wasn’t happening ?

How would you like $350K? To earn it, you need to be black and live in California. That’s the case if an erstwhile athlete’s idea of justice is served.

Of course not 100%. I do think the majority of the US viewed slaves as property. Civil War/history buffs will know the timelines better than I, but as soon as the North realized that slaves didn't help them with agriculture, they started a public movement to free them all, so the South couldn't get an economic advantage.

Prior to whatever point that was, I feel pretty confident the majority of the US viewed slaves as property.

But again, that was 160 years ago. Focusing on where our moral compass was 160 years ago and trying to mete out punishment 160 years later does nothing but strain race relations in 2022.

The dems are well aware of what they are doing. The more we citizens fight each other, the less energy we will have to fight government.

It's amazing that we keep falling for the same trap. Over and over again.

Interesting. Reparations to people who were never enslaved by people who never owned slaves by a state where slavery wasn't legal.

I think that is a fair representation of what occurred.

I guess I experienced the same when I proved that I could read, write, do arithmetic, push-ups, sit-ups, climb fences, pass through small windows, run 1.5 miles in under 10 minutes, shoot, get tased, get pepper sprayed, and pass legals and a few medical exams.

I had no idea that I'd volunteered for a slave auction. Wait...if you're volunteering...is that...???

Gavin needed a quick plan to counter all of the people (of all races) that are flooding out of Californication, and this is it. He's going to replace them with blacks that believe that going there will get them a FREE RIDE.

But,,, IT'S JUST ANOTHER BIG RAT LIE, and it's never going to happen.
Even IF they really wanted to, (they don't) they can't afford to pay even a small % of that.
Californication is 20+ Billion in dept, already verging on BANKRUPTCY.... (like most of the Blue run states)

Imagine buying cars in a state where they plan banning fossil fuels?

All that bullshit reparations money goes right down the drain and then California wants the US tax payer to front the bill years down the road.

Why California is considering reparations for racism

Black Americans — some of them anyway — might soon receive reparations for the country's legacy of slavery and racism. In California, a task force is debating "recommendations for how the state can atone for and address its legacy of discriminatory policies against Black Californians," The Associated Press reports.

But it's not just California: Officials in
Boston and Kansas City are also discussing what reparations might look like in their cities. Many other towns, cities, and colleges are doing the same. What are the arguments for and against reparations?

Here's everything you need to know:

When did the discussion of reparations start?

Even before the Civil War ended. In 1865, Maj. General William Tecumseh Sherman famously ordered that "40 acres and a mule" be given to Black Americans freed from slavery. "That account is half-right: Sherman prescribed the 40 acres in that order, but not the mule," Henry Louis Gates explains in his PBS show The African Americans. "The mule would come later." The order was designed to answer a simple but urgent question as slavery ended, DeNeen L. Brown writes for The Washington Post: "How would thousands of newly freed Black people survive economically after more than 200 years of bondage and unpaid labor?" But the order was quickly reversed after President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated and his successor, President Andrew Johnson, issued an "amnesty" order that evicted most of the former enslaved people from their new land. "Thousands of Black people left without land were eventually forced into sharecropping and peonage."

Apology accepted?

Nope. Its called restitution.

but you should know what that is ...right Barney?

“Today I apologize,” Rutte said in a 20-minute speech that was greeted with silence by an invited audience at the National Archive.

Ahead of the speech, Waldo Koendjbiharie, a retiree who was born in Suriname but lived for years in the Netherlands, said an apology was not enough.

“It’s about money. Apologies are words and with those words you can’t buy anything,” he said.

Sounds good to me. Where's my check?

Hold on a damn second...

We're giving billions in slavery reparations to a country that has 25% of the world's slaves today!? A country who's own people are the ones who rounded up slaves to put on our ships?

This makes zero effing sense to me.

welcome to liberalism
