How would you feel about this scenario to end the season...

I'm going to assume we beat South Carolina. That puts us at 9 wins with FAU on tap which is another game we should win. So now we're at 10 wins. Buuuut, we lose out. Lose to FSU, lose the SEC Championship Game, and as the SEC's #2 we're gonna draw a really good bowl team and we lose that one too. How do you view the season? That would put us at 10-4 with three straight losses to end the season. Would your view of the season change? I wanna see what y'all think before I answer.

I mentioned this in another thread. It would be a big downer for a while, but in retrospect, we will look back at Mac's first season with mostly fondness. Beating UT, Uga, and winning the East in his first year with a backup QB (mostly). Not too shabby.

If you posed this scenario in August, I would have taken it every day of the week and twice on Sunday. That said, the day after the bowl game would be a complete downer. Then after about a week or so, would feel like Pass said...look back with fondness

This. It will suck, but only really because we lost to one big rival that is not really any better then us.

I can deal with a loss to the SEC West champion. I can even deal with a loss in a minor bowl. But FSU is not really all that, sans Cook. We can and we should beat them.

It will be a disappointment, and depending on how those games are played will make me question Mac, just as the Sugar Bowl loss really made me skeptical of Mus. If they are tough fought, well played games, that we come up short to better teams, it will be tough, but optimism would remain.

Being objective, I think its a real possibility. I would be disappointed depending on how we look and mainly with the bowl game if we don't look good. So far, we've gotten better as the season has gone along for the most part. So I'd like to assume with a month to prepare we could pull that out. If we come out and get drubbed I'd be like WTF. I think FSU is our best chance at a win over the next few games so I'd be pretty disappointed if we lost that one too. It would change my outlook on the season slightly only because that would mean we stalled out and didn't get that better. I'd hope we'd be able to steal at least one of those games.

BTW, here is another scenario. As Numbers had pointed out, Alabama has a ton of problems dealing with a mobile QB that can pass. Their defense is built to stop the LSUs and UGAs of the college football world. But they struggle mightily with Prescott type guy under center.

Why do I mention Prescott? He is QB for the team and Starkeville is the place where Alabama goes this weekend. Right after a huge LSU win.

MSU is a decent team this year and Dak is a senior leader. And for all the much deserved contempt we heap on Mullen, he IS a decent coach. This could be a very interesting game.

It could really happen too. It sucks but we've done better than we ever imagined. It would just be a let down because of how incredible this season has been so far, and to get so close and then 'collapse' at the end. That said, in the big picture we are way ahead of where we should be. If we can get our OLine together and keep our defense chugging, I think we'll be in a good spot next year.

A lot of truth here....this year the expectation wasn't a lot of wins, but it was a lot of progress...if we end the season poorly, and it appears that we took a downward turn, then that is a problem for me.

First of all, South Carolina just took Tennessee to the wire, so counting that game as a win at this point is as far fetched as anything else.

Secondly, we won the east. It is the only objective standard you can measure a season on. Mac accomplished the goal and got us to the promised land in year one. Therefore, the season is a success beyond all imaginable expectation regardless of what else happens.

Finally, Bowl games suck. They are not for real college football fans. There is too much garbage that affects those matchups played a month after the regular season ends. As such, unless you are in the playoffs, sadgator looks at bowl results in a vacuum and not in the context of the success of a season.

I remember the sour taste left by Notre Dame beating us in the Sugar Bowl after winning our first official SEC. But I mostly remember the awesome season that was.

Good Lord, oozie...that's depressing. Why would you post such a hypothetical when your season has BLOWN AWAY expectations.

Not saying I don't enjoy that notion, just acknowledging how dadgum depressing that is for your constituents.

To answer the question, though, it really depends on what your quality win opponents final season numbers look like. Ole Miss, Mizzou, and Jawja wins aren't looking as good as they did at the final buzzer and you lost to LSU. I'd say you guys would need to win at least one of the 3 games you mentioned for the fans to "feel" good, but not necessary for it to be considered a successful season. You won the East; therefore, UF has far exceeded expectations.

It would be dissapointing but IMO the season is pretty much already a success. Especially considering how delpleted our oline in and that we are using our 2nd string QB the rest of the way.

Disagree on Ole Miss. They lost on a fluke play where a guy intentionally fumbled (it hit the ground) and so they're being remembered for that. They beat Bama and still have a chance at a great record/season and beat aTm who ain't bad. We'll see but the jury is still out.

Also Tenn IMO will look like a good win when it's all said and done.

Don't get me wrong, I think the season has already been a success. BUT it would be pretty concerning if we lose three straight while getting blown up in all three. Now I don't think it's gonna happen, that's why I just put it out there for sake of discussion.

And I was there...........and that game sucked. We were so much better than ND and let that one get away. I still believe the players were as hungover at that game as I was. I don't think they tackled Bettis once in the second half.

Didn't say Ole Miss was a bad win...they are a very good team, they're just not the #3 team we thought they were. Again, we'll no more when the dust settles for all teams.

This season is already a success, regardless of how the remainder of the games are played out.

Let me point out the positives:
  1. Muschamp is gone.
  2. We got a really good coach, that understands how to build a program.
  3. Immediate improvement in facilities, to include a long awaited IPF.
  4. First year head coach got us to a bowl game, of which all of us wondered if was possible and gauged back in summer as THE successful milestone for first year Mac.
  5. We have good coaches, but more importantly, we have an offense back, or at least a solid base of an offense, less last week.
  6. Won SEC east. How would have thunk it. We are going to Atlanta. That's another game on the schedule, win or lose, that will provide additional practice opportunities.
  7. Being the SEC championship game is always a plus for future recruits.
  8. Recruiting momentum is up and have several big time prospects watching us closely.
  9. Grier looks to have all the tools to get us in championship contention moving forward.
  10. Game day attendance is back up and will continue to improve pre Muschamp era.
  11. UF football is fun again.

Just to name a few.

With the signs the players have shown of never giving up speaks volumes...the UT win was a great example. Even the Vandy win. We stayed in and never gave up. Our hero for that game was a guy replaced by a walk on dentist. It is always repeated that kickers have sensitive feelings. Think about being replaced by a student from open tryouts but you had your time to shine and you took advantage of it. Even the Kentucky game showed they can close out.

That in my opinion goes a long way especially considering where we were with the last QB and coach.

Winning the East does it make a successful season, esp considering from where we came. Heck, some schools even get rings for accomplishing less...

I'm satisfied with the season. I don't think my scenario is gonna happen, though it's likely. This was simply for discussion purposes. Was talking about it with one of my homies and decided to bring it to the board to see everybody else's take. We've way overshot expectations but I think that finish would be disappointing to a lot of people. Just kinda shows how quickly expectations can change. It's good to have expectations again.

This. We won the East in a year some people saw 6-7 wins.

Most importantly offensive skill players now want to come to UF again!!!!!

IMO losing out changes nothing...going from 5th+ in the east to winning the east and being talking about in the final 4 at points in the country...huge success! IMO next year we'll be about the same but we'll continue to build the depth that we need while having big recruiting classes...then we can really make a run after that with a QB that has a full year in. IMO this year puts us 2 years ahead further than we would have been.
