Richt fired

That. He was supposedly the bag man for Butch for a time.

The world moves on. While the past does carry some importance, it's the present that most concerns me. Unless Shannon does something wrong while in Gainesville, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on any 'possible' long past improprieties....

It's McElwain's job to control the current UF coaching staff, keeping them all between the lines.
He seems up to the job to me so far.

Per Dan Wolken,

Though Georgia rallied to win four in a row — none impressively and all against weak competition — the decision had been made. According to one person with knowledge of the situation, Georgia quietly made moves to start a coaching search over the last week. And McGarity, according to another person with knowledge of the situation, was not part of the locker room celebration after the Auburn win, which was noted by the coaching staff.

The next day, when Richt flew across the country for a very public meeting with the Bulldogs’ future starting quarterback, it signaled he knew sentiment of Georgia’s most prominent supporters had turned against him.

Georgia will owe Richt a buyout of $4.1 million, according to the contract extension he signed in January. He has yet to sign the contract, but athletic director Greg McGarity said the school would honor the deal.

He has agreed to coach the Bulldogs in their upcoming bowl game, sources said. With a victory, Richt would pick up his 10th double-digit-win season at Georgia.

Ole Miss 10 - 38 @ UF (+28)

Good thing that the NCAA made your season by suspending Grier...

UGA played two teams who will finish the regular season ranked this season and were outscored 65-13.

By the way, Richt had to know he was in trouble when McGarity made him fly commercial to Washington to visit Jacob Eason

Just like they were saying about LSU....You don't know you had until it's gone.

Never like him but, he always won. A lot of competition given all the openings

McGarity is all class;

ATHENS — Georgia players found out the news about Mark Richt just a few minutes before the rest of the world did.

It came via a mass text message from a team staffer, who was passing it along from Richt, according to a player. It said that the bowl game would be Richt’s last game.

“Then a few minutes later I saw the news blowing up on Twitter,” said the player, who did not wish to be quoted.

A team meeting is planned for Sunday night, but that was already scheduled. The team’s bowl destination is unknown at this point, and won’t be official until next week.

It will be a chance to send Richt off with a second straight 10-win season.

“He has all of our love and respect,” the player said. “We’re gonna play hard for him.”

I would love to have a dream job like that and get fired. Where else can you get fired and still draw millions of dollars? Mark Richt goes to Miami book it!!!!

I'm hearing a lot of noise that this may in fact really be happening -- obviously, as DC, not as head coach. Mussy is supposedly not happy at Auburn.

Gee. From his sideline antics yesterday I'd day the feeling might be mutual.

Might get interesting with Jacob Eason....guess we were a team of interest at some point, but I assume UGA feels they have a decent chance of keeping him, as that was a consideration on firing Richt.

This is funny:

Yeah and you hope he leaves before Saturday.
Even for a troll...you are really lame.

Embarrassingly so.

There are a few smart people in Alabama..try and find them and elevate yourself.

Just don't trip over your fathead of Saban or your comfort waistband dirty underpants your mom will be cleaning soon. We hope.

You gonna put your eggs in that basket? Well why not, everyone knows what a fool you are. And it wouldn't matter if you had Werfel at QB. Even before you lost Grier you didn't impress anybody. 7 points against ECU, 5 points against Kentucky, 1 point against Tennessee. Everybody knows Ole Miss is the most inconsistent team in the SEC. Besides if Florida didn't breed criminal QB's you might be able to keep one. That was real impressive needing OT to beat a team who lost the previous week to MTSU who Bama slaughtered. And what was that crap Saturday when you embarrassed the SEC against FSU? Hell, even Georgia beat Ga Tech who beat FSU. ROTFLMAO!

Over the years, the Bama fans I have interacted with seem to be good, intelligent people. Maybe because the ones I have run into are the ones that go the the SECCG or make the trip to Gainesville. So maybe I have only experienced the upper echelon of the group.

But, as we can see here, there are some seriously retarded Bama fans that can rival the majority of FSU fans in that regard. To the point where by comparison some of the FSU fans might even seem...well intelligent.

Calm yourself if you want to continue posting here.

UGA made the right call.

Richt routinely played an easier schedule than Miles and performed no better than a coin toss when it came to the big games. Also, kudos to UGA for making it quick and sending Richt off in a dignified way.

Also, Muschamp may be headed to South Carolina... as a head coach.

And they knew about it since the Florida game but were able to keep it quiet.

Read it was his puzzling QB decision...just like we talked about on here.
Yep. Had he tried to run a running QB, but failed, then that might have made some sense. That might have been supportable. But he threw a rookie QB out there, one ill suited to run the traditional UGA offense.

It is almost as if Richt just wanted to just go ahead and get it over with. As if he knew another embarrassing loss to Florida would do it.

If Mark Richt decides not to return to coaching, some Georgia Republicans are eager to guide him toward a more rough-and-tumble sport.

The outgoing University of Georgia football coach is being recruited to run for Georgia governor in 2018, according to two people with direct knowledge of the efforts.

Both also hasten to add it’s a long-shot. Richt, who was fired on Sunday after 15 years as Georgia’s head coach, has already been contacted by several schools now that he’s a free agent. And his friends say he has expressed little interest in politics.

But Republicans seeking to shape the field to succeed Gov. Nathan Deal in 2018 say it’s worth a shot. Several GOP office-holders, including Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and Secretary of State Brian Kemp, are exploring a run, but the race for the state’s top job remains wide open.

And Richt remains a popular – and eminently well-known – figure in Georgia who is used to speaking to crowds, navigating the media, dealing with personal attacks and crafting a message. Those close to him says his politics lean toward the right, though he’s largely avoided making political statements.

He wouldn’t be the first head coach to try to make the leap. Tom Osborne, once Nebraska’s head football coach, won three terms in Congress before launching a failed bid for governor.

And Vince Dooley flirted with a bid for governor after he retired in 1988 as the Georgia football coach, deploring Georgia’s crime and education problems at his farewell press conference. He opted instead to remain in Athens as the school’s athletics director.

“I’ve been in athletics all my life and I feel comfortable in athletics,” Dooley said at the time. “My commitment is I’m going to stay.”

Richt’s friends don’t expect him to venture into the world of politics any time soon. Tim Echols, a member of the state Public Service Commission who goes to church with the coach, said it’s more likely that Richt goes into full-time missionary work than start a political campaign.

“Coach Richt doesn’t seem to really enjoy politics, and I would be absolutely stunned if he ran for any political office,” said Echols, who is urging fans to wear black Saturday to honor Richt.

“He loves coaching young men, building their lives and having an impact on them on and off the field. He doesn’t seem to have any interest in politics.”

i agree. LSU actually took a step back with the way they handled Miles. They would have been better off firing him now. Now Miles is on the hot seat and he can't be too happy himself with how things have played out. I bet people are going to negative recruit against LSU now. If Miles doesn't win the SEC in a year or two he's going to get fired. LSU bungled that up BIG TIME!

Had they fired Miles, LSU would have owned Les Miles more than 15 million dollars to just go away. That's twice as worse than what UF had to pay Muskrat. LSU just could not afford to pay both a new coach and its fired coach. Besides, Miles had good support from all over Louisiana like ex-governor Bobby Jindal and others.

Meanwhile, Florida's recruiting efforts put a big dent in LSU's by taking away Felipe Franks from the Tigers who was their crown jewel of the class. Similarly, Florida will try to do the same to Georgia's class by taking their prized QB recruit from the dawgs.
