weighted four-year recruiting averages as 1 component (out of 3) to calculate its projections. https://www.sbnation.com/college-fo...llege-football-recruiting-rankings-2019-class

Our Gators are a bit of a surprise until you look at the Weighting Methodology -

  1. uses a blend of point totals (how the recruiting services determine their class rankings) and per-recruit averages.
  2. This year’s recruiting class accounts for about 67 percent of the projection.
  3. Last year’s class accounts for 15 percent.
  4. The class from two years ago accounts for 15 percent.
  5. The class from three years out accounts for about 3 percent
1. Alabama
2. Georgia
3. LSU

6. Florida
7. Auburn
8. Texas A & M

17. Tennessee
19. S Carolina
22. Miss State
24. Ole Miss

A Shift in SEC Recruiting -

Dawgs have lost James Coley & Sam Pittman.

Gators have added Tim Brewster.

Both of Dawg's former coaches plus Brewster will be gunning for UGA targets !

But that's not all Gator fans ! Both Mississippis coming on !

Lane Kiffin, now at Ole Miss, has recruiting connections in Florida. from his FAU HC stint. He has also added some Asst Coaches who are known as talented recruiters !
D.J. Durkin, Chris Partridge, Joe Jon Finley

Durkin and Partridge are both former national recruiters of the year in addition to helping lead highly ranked defenses, while Finley tutored a John Mackey Award finalist during his stops as tight ends coach at Missouri and Texas A&M.
https://olemisssports.com/news/2020/1/2/football-adds-three-to-coaching-staff.aspx

Durkin, Rivals' Recruiter of the Year in 2012, has helped ink seven top-25 classes, including five which ranked in the top 10. During his time with the Gators, Durkin helped land four straight top-11 recruiting classes and nine five-star prospects.

NOTE: I don't remember Durkin being that involved in recruiting while at UF, but I have been wrong before - LOL !

Partridge was named National Recruiter of the Year by Scout in 2016 and received the same honor from 247Sports in 2017. He was ranked a top-five recruiter again in 2019 by 247.

Mike Leach at Miss State is charging hard as well. Miss State now up to 10 off the field recruiting staff. Did not recognize any of his new asst coaches & no handy article like one I found for Ole Miss. But - https://www.forwhomthecowbelltolls....5/mike-leach-and-mississippi-state-recruiting

Football recruiting in SEC territory will be brutal. Georgia, Alabama, & Tennessee will not be the only SEC schools with $2 million recruiting budgets. Florida listed at #14 - only spending $1,155,802. Will have to pony up to keep pace.

Durkin was a beast and he was one of the few that I was truly sad to see let go, I believe it was butterteeth who chose to get rid of him. He went straight to Michigan but then got his stint as a head coach which was derailed by that fiasco that went down that they pretty much piled all on his shoulders to avoid a major lawsuit from the family of the player that died. He is still a massive asset to whatever program takes him on, although I'm pretty sure now that he will never get another opportunity as a head coach.

1. Not worried about the Mississippi schools coming to Florida. They are, after all, the Mississippi schools. Unless they start throwing cash around, they won't make much impact. And they can't afford to outbid Georgia and Alabama anyway.

2. Not worried about the recruiting budget. Remember, the majority of our recruits are within driving distance. Driving to recruits is pretty cheap. We only cherry pick nationally. Have you ever heard that Dan is limited in his recruiting by lack of money? That there are kids in Cali or Texas he wants to pursue but can't? No, our recruiting budget is less because it costs us less to recruit.

We spent 1.5mill last yr. Surprises me UF only had to spend 1.1..... Just further shows Willies incompetence

LG89,

Have to disagree somewhat.

You are may be correct that Mike Leach & Miss State do not charge into Florida; perhaps more likely to head for Texas where he was HC of Texas Tech for 8 yrs.

But nothing stopping Leach from Cherry Picking Florida for "his" type of skill players - WRs & QBs & a few OL in particular.

Ole Miss, a different story. Lane Kiffin & Durkin have substantial Florida ties. FAU / South Florida in particular with Kiffin, & I think we will see them more than we want & that they will have some success.

Recruiting budget, I think that the people infrastructure, off the field analyst & "tutors" is where we will spend more money.Salaries & benefits cost a bunch; probably more than travel.

Hope I'm wrong, but don't think so.

I am willing to bet my house on a verbal commitment from Travonte Rucker, a 17 yr old H S recruit who has already decommitted from UF once & may do so again.

No one in the 2021 class is guaranteed to sign LOI & to qualify to enroll with Gators.
A verbal commit means nothing !

Hope they work out ! Until they get on the field at the SEC level & prove they belong, they are nothing but potential.

Are they academically qualified ?

You are putting the cart before the horse !

When we're winning and those programs are what they typically have been....we'll get what we want and need. Sure they will pull some players out of FL but we might not even want them. I'm not too worried about it unless our rankings drop and or we start loosing a bunch of battles to Ole Miss.

I'm not saying they can't get players out of Florida. How many D-1 kids come out of Florida each year? 200? We can only sign 25. But they won't compete for the elite kids. I mean, think about it. You are a top Florida kid, you have Florida, Florida State, Miami, Georgia, Alabama, Clemson and Mississippi after you, what kid signs with Mississippi? I would expect them to be going after Louisiana kids before Florida kids. Closer to home.

As for recruiting, the minute I hear Mullen say something like "we do what we can with what we have", I will shout from the rooftops to increase the recruiting budget. But if he has what he needs, no reason to throw money away.

When your team has been average at best the best recruiting tool that you can do is exceed exceptions and win games but I agree with LG89 being close to home is huge for a lot of kids...Gainesville is a perfect spot to get south FL kids and pull from the region. You have to have the right staff....guys that can recruit, coach and develop talent.
