I read an article that Malik Barrow (DT - IMG Academy) signed a mid-year agreement with Ohio State. He is the 4th player to do so this year for their 2016 class. Basically the agreement locks in OSU's scholarship offer to him, but does not lock-in Malik to OSU. He can still take visits and go somewhere else in the end although I don't think he will. The cool thing this gives OSU is the ability to talk with Malik as often as they would like -- no limits -- and talk openly about him to the media and to other recruits as if his LOI has already been signed.

Does UF do this sort of thing? I have never heard of us doing this if so. Seems like a great thing to do assuming it is a top-notch recruit that you are going to take no matter what. What are the drawbacks of doing this (other than locking the player in to a scholarship I guess) for both the player and the school?
