--McElwain on why he never named Will Grier the permanent starter prior to his suspension: “That’s it all along. I felt we had two guys who deserved playing time. I’m excited about how Treon prepared as a starter, even though maybe he wasn’t starting.”
--On if Harris ever pouted while not starting: “That’s one thing I think that separates him from a lot of guys. No, he never did. This team rallies behind him and he did a great job in the preparation part.”
--On why Grier apologized to the media at the podium right after his suspension was announced: “It was something that we talked about. It was important for him, because as far as just letting people know. Part of growing up in life – each one of us, doesn’t matter who you are – there’s a lot to be said about being honest. That’s really what it’s all about. It’s something where you’re maybe able to learn in life. Yet his biggest thing was hopefully to help someone else not fall into that same deal. I think that speaks a lot to who he is.”
--On freshman OL Martez Ivey: “I’m sure glad he’s a Gator. He’s going to be one of these guys that they’re going to talk about as a great player here. He’s getting better every day.”
