Look…sadgator is the first to admit that he goofed on (and in a very fanish way disliked) Bowden as much as anyone…but the truth is…

…some of those big games Bowden was a part of were some of the most exciting (and frustrating) moments in sadgator’s life…

It’s always healthy to have an archenemy…and he was ours…

Prayers to Bowden, his family, and our Nole friends…

I have great respect for Coach Bowden and the job he did at FSU. He built a powerhouse program from the ground up. I’ll never forget the interview he gave during the bowl game with VA Tech and Michael Vick. Amazing. Prayers for you and your family coach.

Thanks sad. I loved bowden the coach but he truly looked at the good in every person he met. I met him a few times and he was always gracious and took the time, it was never just a brush off. Elite person. Gunna miss him.

Oh, the games Bobby & Steve gave us: The Choke at Doak, the 1996 "Tackle to the echo of the whistle upset, to be followed by the Gator's MNC victory, the 2 headed quarterback game in 1997, the "Rooster" upset victory in Tallahassee in 1998, "The Swindle in the Swamp" etc, etc, etc. Time was that the MNC ran through Florida. One of Bobby's best quote was "The Big Ten is good, and the Big Twelve is cool, but hey, how about "Big Florida?" I doubt that we will ever see such a display of intrigue again that was Bobby vrs Steve.

14-9 in 1991.

Those games seemed larger than life at the time.

Like the passing of a parent, you may know that it is coming but it still
hurts when it happens. A once in a lifetime rivalry, that was Bobby vrs
Steve. RIP coach, and thanks for all you have meant to the game.

RIP Coach Bowden. I was watching those old 90s rivalries UF/FSU games the other day. Of course The ones that we won. Sadly I don’t think we will see those types of games anymore between UF & FSU. Yes it will always be a rivalry but not sure it ever gets back to that level again. In general college football has changed a lot since then.

sadgator will always maintain that the loudest he ever personally witnessed the Swamp was right before the 3rd down swing pass play that Warrick Dunn took in for the TD in ‘93. It is very difficult for sadgator to watch that replay…it still hurts almost 30 years later.

Many who were in the stands that day said that they never
heard "The Swamp" go so quiet so quickly. That was probably
the came that won Charlie Ward The Heisman Trophy.
I swear Charlie had eyes in the back of his head!

God Bless to Bobby, and his family. He made the 90s a great time to become a fan of the sport. I became a Gator fan after our Sugar Bowl thrashing of the Noles. The sport just seemed bigger with Steve going up against Bobby every year to determine who ran this state, and most likely wound up playing for a National Title.

That and the 1997 game in the Swamp when we were on defense and it was late in the 4th quarter and Dwayne Thomas intercepted a pass to seal the victory. The famous Spurrier alternating QBs game (Johnson/Brindise).

That game is on right now if there are any night owls up - ACC Network.

RIP Bobby!
Bowden once feared he wouldn't live long enough the same way Bear Bryant didn't after he retired and passed away about a month after coaching his last game vs Illinois in late 1982, but I never heard of Bowden having health issues like Bryant had. Bryant was a chain smoker and drinker for most of his life, something I can't imagine Bowden ever chugging the bottle and/or smoking the Winston's.
I can only hope I live as long as Bowden did.

Too bad Spurrier and Bowden never appeared in a commercial together as it seemed Spurrier mellowed after retirement and appeared in more ads and commercials.

I'll admit, although as a Gator fan I know I'm supposed to despise the Canes and the Noles but I'll spit it right. I cleared everything out of the way to make sure I watched the Nole/Cane game as a teenager. I didn't care what cute girl wanted to go to the mall. I didn't care who wanted to party hard after our Friday night high school game. I went home by midnight those Friday nights and kept schedule clear those fall Saturday mornings. Those games were a huge part of my teenage years. It was some of the most exciting football to watch. Of course the UF/FSU games were as well.

This is worth a watch. Bill King was talking about it this morning. You gotta give Bowden credit for running this play when he did. It took some serious balls. He could have taken the tie against Clemson. Had that play failed, Clemson would have won.

sadgator will always be surprised by the fact that Bowden didn’t go for two at the end of the “Choke at Doak.” He would have gotten it, and FSU would have won…maybe it was just good enough for him to know that we all knew it too…

Yep............I was there, in the south end zone. Brutal. The gates of hell were about to open for Booby to be sucked into, and then Ward escaped 3 guys, hit the swing pass and that happened. And then the siege was over, and the good guys lost.

He gave us so many memories

Go Canes!

On his last phone call with dabo, dabo mentioned that if the fsu/clemson game ever came down to a field goal, he could use some help and bobby responded "you dont want my help, i always go wide". Lol Even in death he had that sense of humor.

Big loss

He was a great coach and character.

Condolences to FSU, WV and everyone.
