What a difference 2 months makes. A solid job of flipping the roster so far, with some more work to be done.
We had 87 on scholarship last season, allowable due to a handful of Covid Seniors(no longer allowable as far as I know). There were 35 departures officially via Portal, Prison, or electing for the NFL draft. Removing Rashada, we signed a class of 19, with Caden Jones set to sign next week as #20 for the class of 2023. We also added 10 from the portal (as of this writing....incoming?)...Update: was waiting on Goodwin to show up on campus today for confirmation...
-(35) departures = 52 scholarships
52 scholarships
+20 signees
+1 grey shirt addition with Tony Livingston
+10 portal additions puts us at (83) accounted for currently with Caden Jones, Eugene Wilson, Gavin Hill, and Dijon Johnson set to arrive in early summer.
Spring Portal Dates
There is also the 15-day spring period from May 1-15, however I could have sworn I saw something where the NCAA approved moving it up this year to April 16-May1. Either way the timing is significant because its obviously after spring ball so our depth chart should be sorted out. It is also still BEFORE those remaining enrollees are to be counted against the 85 when they enroll. So it is important to note that they are not yet enrolled and you could recognize 79(I don't) as the number temporarily, depending on how you decide to view things - maybe you take this approach when you get near 85 and need some "finessing" to max out the way we like. The rules say stay under 85 (enrolled) at all times. No going over and cutting by a certain date.
Remaining Needs:
I would think a few are obvious, and of course I am partially using some guesswork here based on who I think might move on from UF in the spring portal (some, not in all of these areas).
I expect a few guys to still move on but this is where things slow down a bit, but I have to admit I was surprised a few names didn't move on when they had the chance. Some guys have not gotten reps even when the coach that recruited them there was still there. Now they are still on the roster and have been recruited over 2-3x now. Some of those few along with upper classmen who may see themselves falling on the depth chart might/should also choose to move on. If I had to give an ideal scenario "for me", I would guess between 4 and 6 could move on. The more the merrier if they are from the previous staff. Maybe its easiest to view it as 6, and its a straight trade for 6 portal spots like the ones above in "Remaining Needs". My hope is that we stay around 82-84 and save at least 1-2 open scholarships.
SEC Transfer Rule:
As a reminder, the SEC has not yet changed its SEC intra-conference transfer deadline of Feb 1st. Any SEC player wishing to transfer and remain in the SEC(without sitting a year) will now need to be a graduate if they did not enter the portal prior to January 18th, or get a special waiver. Graduates can enter the portal at any time, and is not required to sit a year for an intra conference move.
Below is the list including the destinations of those who decided to leave UF for one reason or another.
Departed Defensive Players (18)
Departed Offensive Players (16)
Departed Special teams Players (1)

- 1 QB, for depth of course.
- 1 WR, need an experienced one IMO to bridge a gap to the freshmen.
(2)1 more OL after Goodwin, preferably another Tackle.- (1) Safety, again IMO to bridge a gap to the freshmen.
- A +1 wild card for any position, call it best available.
