Sorry guys, but I'm just not buying into this 'talking season' subject on Gator QB's.

Yes, there is always 'competition' at every position on any Dan Mullen team, just as there should be imoho. However, Trask is solid as the 2020 starter. But just like in 2019, should Trask go down, then Jones will be ready to go in and take over. >Standard Procedure for Dan<

The real QB competition at UF imo, is the battle for #2, not a battle for #1.
Jones now has Richardson breathing down his neck.
For now, Jones 6-2 199 has the knowledge/experience lead.
While Richardson 6-4 230 has the physical size and the 70+ yard arm strength lead.

And next year with Trask gone, both of them will have Del Rio and Kitna breathing down their necks. Position competition is the way of life at UF with Dan.

What's unique at UF with Dan and Brian's QB's is this imo:
Franks and Trask were good friends while competing for 4 years, and they still are.
Now Trask, Jones, and Richardson are all working together to be the best they can be. Richardson was accepted and taken right in by Trask and Jones. Working and learning together, not as separate QB's, but as a UNIT.

They all talk and help each other become better at the job, and whichever does the best gets the majority of the snaps, but all will get some portion of the snaps as they learn and develop. Always a smooth transition as the QB's advance.

We can say what we want but Mullen is the expert here. He sees things we don't. Mullen does seem to want guys that have experience in his system. Trask is a great player and he's the starter....Jones is on deck and in the game....Richardson is going to have to wait unless Trask has an injury but I hope that doesn't happen. It's going to be a Trask/Jones combination IMO. Never seen a coach be effective with 2 QBs like Mullen. Even going back to Leak/Tebow. It almost never works.

Insta is wise on this one.

There's only a made-up "QB controversy" if people want to see one. The way Dan runs the QB room is pretty ideal in terms of shooting straight with each kid and at the same time pushing each other to be better.

I've been a headhunter for 13 years and sometimes you are with a company that is like this...it's great. At another company it's only dog eat dog and you leave soon (see UGA)...nobody is there for you, nobody cares about getting better - you are just a paid mercenary. Once the money runs out or the industry sets back, all the talent leaves.

In Dan I trust.

We may not see much of Richardson, if not at all, but I'm extremely excited about him being on campus.

Richardson can play in 3 season games and still be available for the bowl game.
I'm betting that Anthony gets at least some playing time, just like ALL of the QB's get 1st team reps at practice. We'll see...

And have you already forgotten 2 QB Spurrier???
He'd snatch a starting QB in a heartbeat in any game when he felt it necessary.
He even used DJ and 'Fat Dog' NB on alternating plays to beat FSUcks.... o_O
I've never seen another HC play 2 QB's that way...

Meant wasn't as successful...yes Spurrier did it a couple of times until someone won it on the field.

Recruiting Profile on 2020 QB-dt Anthony Richardson 6-4 233 4.64/40 Fr
Only played in 6 games as a senior due to being injured out mid-season, however:
P - 124 for 1,398 yds, 11.3 yds/att at 64.5%, with 8 TD's to 1 Int.
R - 33 for 151 yds, 4.6 ypc, 7 TD's.

Eastside HS would often run 4 vertical passing concepts and trust Richardson to make big-time throws. More often than not as his career went on, Richardson connected with receivers on deep passes with multiple throws going well over 50 yards in the air and meeting the receiver in stride, all with a simple flick of his wrist.

Mullen on the QB job. https://247sports.com/college/flori...-Emory-Jones-to-play-a-lot-in-2020-148219216/ His approach is much like Spurrier's in that the QB position is not much different from any other on the team. The starting job to be earned each year and earned game to game. If the starter isn't getting it done, the backup gets his shot. Keeps everybody working hard and helps avoid complacency. With that said, Trask is THE guy going into fall practice. He earned it last year and will either have to digress or Jones will have to get so much better he takes the job away from him. At least that's my opinion.

I agree, and all 3 QB's will continue to get 1st team reps in practice.
Competition at every position makes for the best players getting the most game snaps.
I look forward to watching them all develop as the season progresses.

A good read, Dan on the QB's...

“I expect Emory… he will get opportunities and these guys learn from each other,” Mullen said. “Emory got opportunities we put him in games and different situations and looks. He’s played in a lot of big games and he’s played in key moments. If there is a package, he is in and he’s ready to go. I think he knows that as that continues to grow and he gains that experience, he’s going to be prepared and ready for his moment and we’re going to be able to play more than one quarterback during the course of the season.”
