I've been pulling for FSU to lose every game they play in every sport since the 1960's and don't plan on changing now.
This is the ONLY respectable position, IMO. It's precisely how I feel about uf, though my hatred and rooting against them only goes back to about 1987.

I've been pulling for FSU to lose every game they play in every sport since the 1960's and don't plan on changing now.

I use to take this approavh with the Gators, however, once i realized how things work. I want the Gates to win every game except against fsu. Makes us look better

The ideal scenario is for your rivals to win approximately 6-9 games every season, but never beat your team (maybe once per decade). You want them to have a pulse, but still be an indisputable notch below you.

It's a bit like how pet snakes prefer to be fed live mice and won't bother with anything that's been dead for a while.

For the last 7 years, Miami has been the textbook perfect rival.

I disagree. I want my rivals to win every game of every year except the one agianst fsu. Imagine having miami and uf in the top 5 every year but nvr losing. Dream scenario.

Realistic scenario is having ur rival in the top 25 and winning.

I'll be rooting for the Gators. Since they are not in the game I will be rooting for whichever outcome most benefits the Gators.

The only exception to this rule is Georgia. They must always lose.
