Unfortunately, i will be in Gainesville next week. Need a bbq place to eat at. No fatso/chain restaurants and obviously the place must be non poor. Need quality. Not quantity. What is the best?

The original Sonny Tillman restaurant on Wlado Road is still the best imoho, but that's me.

Rib dinner with potato salad, baked beans, onion rings, and a jumbo sweet tea. :)

My Father-in-Law went to school with Sonny, and I've been eating there for the past 47 years.

Just a fun trivia note:
They both were in school with Johnny Weissmuller, if you know who that is.

The original Sonny's is consistently good, but Adam's Rib Co. is my new favorite.

Here's a thought for ya. Just skip a meal and go really hungry, then any of them will be great. ;)

I'm not a 'buffet' or an 'all you can eat' kinda guy either, but I might be the 'take out box' king.

Taste in BBQ is much like taste in women,,, it varies a lot from man to man and there's really no right or wrong involved, just a difference in the taste of the individual... :D

So you'll just have to roll the dice and see what you get from whichever you choose.

Never cared for Sonny's........they are like eating at Golden Corral to me. They tried to open one here in Birmingham and they went belly up pretty quickly.

Will have to try. As a kid we always went to Newberry's pit BBQ after baseball games but it was pretty hit or miss.
One of my best friends lives in Ft White. We always go to Woodyard for BBQ. They use to be downtown across from City Hall but they moved and are on 41 just North of 26.

I went a few years ago when they were downtown. (Don't remember the name but it might be the same place, on the south side of the road?) Anyway, the service was snail slow and the food was only average at best. Those kinds of things can change though... I don't get out that way (west of G'ville) very often.

There is a vast difference between the 'franchise restaurants' and the Sonny Tillman families 'Original Sonny's Fat Boy' restaurant on Waldo Road (just north of E. 23 Ave) in Gainesville.

Guy that originally owned it had it downtown (called Yardbird???) and it was great...…...sold it to a Mother/Son partnership that didn't know what they were doing and they let it go to crap and I think they went bankrupt...…...the original owner reopened it, renamed it and moved it to 41. I am willing to bet you ate there when the mother/son owned it.
Never have eaten at the "original" Sonny's. I travel in FL a lot with my company and over the years have been "forced" (after the first time) to eat at several different locations. I will check with my Gainesville connections and see what they say maybe I will give the "Original" a try.

Very possible, don't know. IF/When I'm out that way again, I'll give them another try.
