In a couple of weeks it will be selection Sunday. With all the potential #1 seeds coming from the southeast, it's not just critical to have a goal to be a #1 seed - it's critical to be ahead of your #1 seed competition - as they will go in order of assigning tourney locations for 1st/2nd games.
Each location will have "2" assignments. This year's first and 2nd round locations are:
Raleigh
Lexington
Cleveland
Providence
Milwaukee
Wichita
Denver
Seattle
The teams competing with Florida for the seed allocations are: Auburn, Duke, Tenn, Bama, & Houston
Using the Draft as a Snake order - unless Duke gets upset... the best draft position for Florida is 3rd.
Auburn has first overall selection and will go to Lexington - as that's closer to Raleigh and in SEC territory
Duke will go to Raleigh
Now comes Florida's challenge. I ranked above the site locations by the Gators' preferential location choice. As you can see - their top two site options have only one slot remaining. If both Bama and Tennessee finish ahead of UF in the overall rankings - then Florida will be shipped to Cleveland as 2 seed- and nothing good happens in Cleveland.
Both Tennessee's and Bama's preference is Lexington, then Raleigh - which is why Wednesday's matchup with Bama is critical for #1 seeding, site location 1st/2nd round and Regional location. For the SEC tourney - finish ahead of Bama & Tenn and you'll earn a trip to Raleigh.
As far as planning Regional locations - would breakdown as 50% West (SF) with Houston (as your #1/2 seeds) 30% East (Newark as #2 Seed w/Duke), 20% Midwest (#3 overall seed and likely Iowa St or Bama if they fall to a 2 seed)
Houston's preferred location is Wichita - so they will not be in conflict for site location in 1st/2nd.
First things first... Beat Bama - show no mercy and have the best 2 road wins in the nation.
