Minneapolis mayor booed at protest today for refusing to defund police

Will be interesting to see how far anarchists may go, including possible violence, if their demands of city administrations are not met.

Dems always publicly stake out radical positions as a trial balloon. Remember a few weeks ago when VA gov claimed state would have to stay closed for 2 years to recover from hoax flu?

What does defunding the police actually do?

No more cops, period. Anarchy rules. It's as if anarchists are behind this whole thing.

Minneapolis already knows what will happen. A year ago they severely limited police presence in the downtown business district. Oddly enough violent crime skyrocketed and eventually the cops came back. Within a few weeks, 19 were arrested and the violence stopped....completely.

No they want to eliminate the police department, entirely.
My understanding is that the defunding mechanism and abolishing are two different things. The defunding is budget reduction which is exactly what Garcetti announced in LA yesterday, a sizeable budget reduction, still not good but different from complete abolishment of the department.

Correct but 3 on the city council are calling for abolishing the police. They want to replace it with "something else."

47 robberies in a 20 day period. Once they decided enough was enough, it took 3 days to put an end to it.

I wonder what would happen if you defunded the police? You have to question the motives of some who would want to defund police.
It is beyond insanity. There has to be a lot of democrats who think this defunding or abolishing idea is just nuts. But then again...

"We will achieve this by presenting a practical pathway for the dismantling of the Minneapolis Police Department; the transference of its social service functions to community-based agencies and organizations; the replacement of its emergency intervention functions with models not based on military methods; and the redirection of resources to support community resilience and people-directed development," the site says.

That is comically stupid. If not for my genuine concern for the innocent people in Minneapolis, I'd say give it a shot.

Caveman law will rule and vigilantism will explode. So basically Chicago.

What do you think the reaction would be when gun czar Beto shows up at your door and says hand over your gun. Does he make it to a second house?

Baby steps. Government being the only ones with guns is the end goal.

No police means crime runs rampant, citizens kill each other off, meaning less chance government is overthrown.

Sheep have the freedom to now choose to be slaves. If we continue down this path, they will eventually lose that freedom. As will we all.

And they're afraid to speak up because they'd be immediately subject to attack, ridicule, and exclusion from their group.
Kind of like the way Germans who weren't on board early on with the Boys in Brown shirts in the late 20's and early 30's.

He pandered to the looters and rioters, now he's begging the government to help recover from the damages to the city he runs.
Hey Jacob - have a sit down. Do coffee...warm pastries...have someone start in with that old time favorite, Kumbaya...lets all be friends, do Minnesota nice.
You incompetent Mr. Feelgood PUSSY.
(Sorry about the language)

Dont give him a dime is right. Let him and the governor raise city and state taxes to pay for it. It is the city and state that did nothing to fix their PD or get rid of Chauvin and then they call for national guard AFTER all the destruction and looting takes place. And as a U.S taxpayer, I'm supposed to pay for that?

I've watched First 48 for several years and they've featured the Minneapolis PD several times. I end up shaking my head at the way they interrogate murder suspects.
Both black and white detectives in other places (mostly in the South, SHOCK, but those guys in Cleveland are good too) are far more tough, but in Minnesota it's like "Hey, if you feel like it, would you be able to share your feelings with us about why you sawed your wife into twelve pieces?"
And then they have some psycho with 18 reprimands in his jacket kill a man already in custody. I wonder if they use the same approach with their bad cops? "Uh, Bob, would you mind easing up on beating your suspects? ".

Jeebus.

WTF??? Wow.

A police-less society? Watch and see how a criminal will not go to jail and a man rightly protecting his property will face time behind bars. Oh wait, I forgot. No police, no jails. Fire away people. This is gonna be like the Old West again.

My father-in-law lives in Minnesota and a life long democrat, hates republicans and Trump big time. And watches CNN constantly. We don't talk much. My wife talks to him every Sunday. I told her to tell him that Minnesota should raise taxes to pay for the damages. That would piss him off. It was Minnesota's fault that this happened. Why the hell should I have to pay for it. I didn't vote for any of those a-holes running that state and city.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
