On one hand they had to do it but not sure who they are going to get to go there. That program has problems.

Yeah...tough spot for them....he is not a bad coach, but was put into a near impossible situation. Now they have to pay him, and a new coach, neither of which they can afford.

On the other hand, time for McE and Shannon to hit S Fla hard.

Here's someone that would take the job:

I think the most hilarious outcome I could see coming from this would be for Miami to steal Butch Jones from UcheaT and leave the Viles completely screwed yet again. They've had several planes fly over UM games this year asking for Butch Jones to save them. I don't know the connection or why you would be so damn desperate to hire that caveman, but that'd be hilarious in my opinion. That or Lane Kiffin get's the job. Or Butch Jones abandons UT for UM and UT rehires Lane Kiffin. Bwahahaha.

Either way, it's great to be a Florida Gator.

Nobody wants Butch Jones. Your thinking of Butch Davis.

He is a good dude, and he was a good coach. sadgator has mad respect for that guy. He does things the right way and is a great college guy. He deserves another good shot at another stop. sadgator hopes he gets it.
He may be a good guy. That I don't know but he was a terrible head coach at Miami. He was as bad if not worse than Muschamp.

Miami is an impossible situation right now. He was good at Temple. And yes, of course, he beat Ole' Mus.

I agree, it was a really bad situation he was put into, and that job is now a better one for whomever is next/

This is good for us. Truth is, we've never had much success recruiting in Miami-Dade. Most of our S. Fla guys are from Broward although we get 2-3 a year in Dade. So when Miami is down, all those guys go to FSU. A player like Cook would have been a Cane in years past. So we need Miami to be good. We don't play them anyway, someone besides UF has to help keep FSU in check.

LOL sadgator.

UM is in a bad place. Very bad. Golden was hired in part to turn what was considered a thug program into something with depth of character. He just couldn't win while doing that. Many of the UM faithful want the bad boy reputation back.

The UM facilities suck. The alumni base is small and not organized in a meaningful way...so they are cash poor for football.

Sun Life stadium is a ghost town on gamedays. It's 17 miles from Campus. UM's undergrad enrollment is 10,000. Unless FSU or another big draw is in town, the place looks empty. I don't see how that can impress recruits.

I'll be interested to see how this all plays out. Does Miami finally "show the money" or do they continue down the path of irrelevance even longer. The few Miami fans they have all want the 80s back. What they fail to realize is that isn't going to happen again. The college football landscape has changed drastically since then. It's become a big money business. Does Miami have the money to compete? They also want Butch Davis back but the Butch Davis of now isn't the same as the one they had and again the landscape has changed. Butch is also 64 years old.

They may be able to hire the tennis-sea Butch after this season. His loser record and bad game day decisions have the rubber-dollie fans up in arms to unload him. He was 0-2 vs the musclecramp and he's already 0-1 vs brand-new McElwain....

Yes I got them mixed up. I didn't even know butch Davis was still able to coach in college after the last disaster he got into with the NCAA. Why on Earth would Miami want that guy BACK??? He's one of the prime reasons they currently sucks so bad due to his NCAA penalties they've been suffering.

In any event, it's going to be one HELL of a tough job finding someone halfway competent to take over a job with such a pathetic fan base and no stadium. They've got to be the only school in the country sitting in that situation, at least in football. Many colleges don't have their own basketball arenas and have to rent the local city's hall like Kentucky. Hell even every non-scholarship school has their own on campus stadium that I'm aware of. If people thought WE had an image problem being one of 2 teams in The SEC without an IPF, how are they going to deal with promoting facilities that do not even exist?

Davis, though, was candid about his desire to return to Miami, saying he even put together a list of potential assistants and coordinators if the school were to offer him the job.
“Obviously, I’d love to be considered for that opportunity and time will tell if whether or not that’s the direction the school would like to go,” Davis said on 790. “I’ve told people many, many times that everything that I ever accomplished as a coach has its roots in Miami. … They gave me the first opportunity to be a head coach at the collegiate level and then to get a chance to coach in the NFL.”

Yeah, I'm done with this line of thinking. We need to commit resources and effort, and if necessary hire a few more coaches with SoFla ties, and start pulling some of these playmakers out of there. Out of state schools pull them out of there, I see no reason why we can't as well.

Well Antonio Callaway, Brandon Powell and Jordan Scarlett are from that area.

Because he is a very good coach, and an even better recruiter. Furthermore, I hear he actually wants the job.
He's a very good recruiter. I don't think he's a good Gameday coach. I also know he's 64 yrs old. I don't think he would be as successful this time around.
