Lonestar ****UPDATE November 21****

More musings from the road. Spent a few days in Indiana for repairs, followed by a week in St. Louis, now back in Oklahoma for a month.

Indiana: Middlebury to Southbend. Loads of Amish people. Good people, lots of damn good food. Went looking for Levi to see about joining the Amish mafia, to no avail. Went to Southbend, took a photo of Touchdown Jfegaly holding his arms up under Touchdown Jesus. Decked out in Sooner gear of course.

Campus was pretty cool. Toured the Basilica. Had a funny moment and almost got kicked out. There was a tiny stairway that lead upstairs to the organ pipes. I saw a couple people up there and told the family “let’s go check that out”. As I hunched down to go up this tiny spiraling staircase, my first indicator that I shouldn’t be doing this was that the family was no longer following. As I reached the top of the stairwell, it was as if I was a Jack in the box, and had startled two priest’s in the act of…..well, nm. No they weren’t doing anything, but the looks of surprise on their faces as I stood there like “sup” was priceless. They both looked at me and said “what are you doing up here?”.

Now, for once in my life, my brain actually stopped me from saying what I wanted to say. “I’m here for the gangbang”. Anyway, I calmly hung my head in shame, apologized for intruding, and crept back down the stairs that were built for the seven dwarfs. The wife and kids standing at the bottom, waiting and laughing at me as I made the voyage back to them. We scuttled out of there as quickly as possible

St. Louis: pretty uneventful. Went to the arch, and the St louis zoo. Everytime I go to St. Louis, the weather is absolutely garbage. Rained on us for much of the time, but still enjoyed the gateway to the west.

Oklahoma: home sweet home for a month. Currently located on Lake Eufaula for a month of crappie fishing with my best friend of around 40 years. There will be Shenanigans I tell ya. Got a screw in the tire sidewall of the Motorhome (we call him Brutus) on the way here, but made it here before we noticed it. Grateful for making it safe and sound. Next stop, Utah!

Hope everyone is well, and don’t forget to get out and do that thing you always wanted to do.

Ok. Quick update. Things have been pretty uneventful.

Oklahoma: only ended up getting to fish 1 day and spent only 1 week at Lake Eufaula. Due to an unfortunate turn of events that I would rather not discuss we ended up back in Katy Texas for the last 3 weeks. Had an amazing time catching up with Friends in the area.

A friend of mine (considerably younger than I) owns a brewery in the area and we spent way too many nights drinking and catching up. Great people that have supported my family through good times and bad. Everytime I visit, they never let me pay for drinks, but it’s not about that.

Our businesses supported each other every day during covid, and it created a bond that will last til I am boots up. Alas our time in Katy has come to and end. @BSC911 Thank you for the best damn fries Whataburger has to offer while we were here.

Next up….New Mexico, Moab, Zion and Vegas!!!

Cherish those friendships that are real gents. Life is short, and true friends are hard to come by.

Morning gents. Long update (TLDR) Our Travels have taken us on from Katy Texas to Sante Fe and Chama New Mexico, thru Durango Colorado, a long stop in Moab, Utah and we are now in Zion National Park/Bryce Canyon National Park. All I can say is WOW, and how grateful I am for this experience.

Sante Fe: first let me say that every time I travel to New Mexico it always feels like a strange vibe. Maybe it’s some of the government secret squirrel stuff that takes place here, but it’s always just a weird feeling for me. Otherwise, Sante Fe is a beautiful city, with interesting mixes of culture. We were only here for an overnight stay so not much else to report.

Chama: very interesting small town with some beautiful scenery and a railroad stop where you can take the train for a scenic ride. It’s the cumbres and toltec railroad and only fully operates in summer/fall aftet May 15. We stayed in this quaint (don’t blink or you will miss it) village for a couple nights break from driving. 2 nights was enough to take in the mountain scenery. Railroad info: Railroad

Durango: Only stayed for 1 night, but one of our favorite overnight stops. This place has one of the more famous scenic railroads in the country. The Durango-Silverton railroad, and has tons of history. The scenery is awesome, mainstreet has tons of shops, historical buildings and hotels, and some fantastic dispensaries if you’re into that sort of thing. I will let you guess where an old veteran with lots of aches and pains falls on that one. 😉. Anyhow, this is a place I would like to revisit for a long weekend sometime.

Moab: Wow, the crown jewel so far. If hou have never been to any of Utahs big 5 national parks…..well, that needs to change. Lots of different types of excursions you can do here. Jeep/side by side tours and rentals, river rafting, hiking etc. We spent most of our time hiking, and it was incredible. Difficult to put into words just how beautiful, and how small this place makes one feel.

We pushed ourselves and did things we no longer believed we were capable of doing. Overcame many fears along the way. Spent time in both Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. Hikes we did in order of favorites (I am probably missing a couple as we hiked a ton)

1. Fisher Towers: Our biggest test. GPS says 6.2 mile hike, listed as moderate hike and climbs about 650 feet. It ends with a liitle wooden sign (handmade) that sits on top of a boulder. It’s a duh moment because if you take 2 steps past the sign????? You fall off a sheer cliff about a 1000 + feet. The views were amazing

2. Corona arch: another climbing hike with amazing views along the way and at the end where Corona arch ends at a cliff.

3. Delicate arch: THE ICON of Arches NP. Incredible hike that is classified as difficult. 3 mile hike that climbs 480 feet. Amazing hike and rewarding to see THE arch.

4. Mesa Arch: .5 mile hike (easy) but the arch views on this one are amazing at sunrise. Arch sits on cliff that will give your stomach butterflies if you look down

5. Windows: easy walking to several arches but is a must as you get to see several arches

6. Landscape arch: easy walk to the largest arch.

We did several others and they were all fantastic, but those above are must do’s if ever in Moab.

Our last night we went out to eat, and after several adult drinks….

I got up to leave and behind us? Duane (Dog the Bounty Hunter) Chapman. I didn’t realize how small he is. He was so tiny, and I had just enough drinks in me, that I almost asked if he wanted to sit on my lap. All kidding aside, he was real nice, and we got a photo of the family with Dog.

We won’t forget Moab anytime soon! Next up? Zion, Bryce, and Vegas baby!

PS: I know folks want to travel the world, but man….we got enough things to see and do in this Great Country to keep a person busy for a lifetime. Get out and see it ladies and gents.

@BamaFan1137 please don’t put out an APB for my recreational use.

Been a bit.

Zion: beautiful park, hiked the narrows with the family. Fantastic day, but zion is very crowded if you go. I do recommend hiking the narrows. Cool experiences

Bryce Canyon: views are spectacular on hikes, but every hike starts from top of canyon down. For this old cat it meant finishing hikes with a climb. Hikes were fantastic, but lots of climbing upwards to finish.

Vegas: love me some vegas. Hit a 1600 dollar jackpot, finished down about 600 dollars, but got about 600 dollars in hotel comps. So… pretty close to even. Looking at you @EvilWayz I won 1600 amirite? Had a fantastic time. Love vegas. If you gamble, set a budget (when I go I put money aside, and consider it entertainment). Pro tip: If you win, print the ticket and put it in your safe. Don’t touch your tickets until it’s time to leave. It’s not full proof but most the time I finish pretty close to even. Sometimes better, sometimes worse.

Yellowstone June 1-19: not gonna lie, been a rough couple weeks. We got one day in the park, saw old faithful, and prismatic springs (amazing) along with a ton of Buffalo. The next day the whole family got the scourge of the earth and we haven’t done much since. The park closed while we were sick due to massive flooding that took out roads inside the park.

2 days ago we were going to go for a drive and saw a momma and baby bighorn sheep trying to cross the road in front of our campground. As we stopped for photos a car going about 70 hit the baby. Had my kids in the car, and it was horrific. Needless to say we turned around and came back to the RV. Still can’t get the image out of my head. My little girl was devastated.

Finally yesterday we bagan to feel a little better (day 12) and went to this little local hot spring (norris hot spring) and it was fantastic. Afterwards we drove to Virginia city, and what a cool little historic town. If ever in West Yellowstone I highly recommend a day trip to the hot spring and virginia city.

Next up: Idaho and northwest montana

The drive along the Clearwater River from Lewiston ID to Missoula, MT is great.

And don't miss the hot springs where Jeremiah Johnson and the Indians used to winter.
Note: it's known for some nudity in the springs, so check before bringing in any underage kids.

I was there sometime in the middle 90's, so I don't have any new info for ya.

BTW, did you ever get in the Skinwalker Ranch area of NE Utah?

I live here in FWB/Destin area. I bet you know where Deweys is! LOL
Lol. I had forgotten the name of the place, but yes we ate there last time we were in Destin years ago. It was fantastic, and we will be going again.

Ok gents and errrr ladies, and…..Whatever new pronoun BSC is using these days (Fry Gal?). It’s been a little while, but we are all nestled in South Florida for the winter so…..

Update as promised:

I will start where we left off. Just left Yellowstone (June 19th). Headed to Challis Idaho for a month. And what an interesting month. Challis Idaho sits in East-Central part of Idaho not far from the Sawtooth National Forrest in the High Dessert region of Idaho.(About an hr from Lake Stanley Idaho).

June 20 - July 19
- While here we hiked (hardest hike to date) to this awesome little Hot Spring called Goldbug Hot spring. It’s a fairly long hike (6 miles?), but you sit atop this mountain looking down through the valley while sitting in this pool of water that has cascading waterfalls all the way down the valley. What an experience. Probably won’t do it again, but just because it was strenuous and tough on this old cats knees.

- Lake Stanley. Absolutely gorgeous. Ate Lunch while Overlooking this crystal clear bluish/green lake that sits at the base of towering mountains capped with snow. Water was cold, but it was just hot enough outside (85) to take a dip. Spectacular drive getting there along the Salmon River. Lake Stanley is a summer hot spot for Idahoans, and tourists alike. A little touristy, but not too bad. The Scenery is spectacular.

- Ketchum. Little Holywood they call it, is a town in Idaho known for celebrity vacation homes. It sits just south of Stanley at the base of a ski resort. Nice scenery, but not my cup of tea. Way too developed and crowded. Ate lunch and got out of dodge as quickly as I could.

This update is a little strange as we had to make two emergency trips to Salt Lake city for medical reasons for my lady. Needless to say, the activities were a little broken up on this one. Yes she is fine, just part of the adventure.

Would I go again to Challis? Probably not, but other parts of Idaho I will for sure. The Sawtooth Forrest and Northern Idaho are on my list.

Next stop. Thompson Falls Montana for the Heat of summer, and man the Float trip of a lifetime, and a white knuckle trip in Glacier National Park. There also might be a story about a lady with some awesome honkers!

God Bless America!
