Lol McElwain being linked to the Oregon job

Oregon St just had an opening and didn’t hire him. I doubt Oregon will.

1. His teams could not win against decent opposition.
2. His teams were dreadfully boring to watch (even for a rival, who was watching with the hope that his team would stink)
3. He was highly unlikable.

That is the Triple Crown of the “who won’t land in a great job” competition.

Foley gets an unfair rap sometimes, but sadgator totally concurs that if he was still AD Mac would still be our coach (next year and beyond).
I used to think that but not any more. Football is the straw that stirs the drink and he has failed miserably in his career in that department. He deserves kudos for building up and maintaining excellence in all the other sports, particularly hiring Billy, but his hiring of Mac was the last straw for me.

The things coming out about Mac and his destruction on the program are so bad that it was almost like someone wanted to see us fail (which I obviously know wasn’t his intent) but the Mac hore WAS that bad.

Other than all that he was a good fit at Florida. Now do Jimbo.

My thoughts on Jimbo? Overall he did a very good job for us. Came in behind a legend who had stayed (and been allowed to stay) too long. The program was in lousy shape, getting whipped on the field and in recruiting, especially by you guys. He turned that around and won a championship, and the new coach is inheriting a better situation than Jumbo inherited. But he certainly has weaknesses. I have never really liked his play calling, or his offense in general. It is way too complicated. Sometimes you just need to do simple things and let your athletic ability win out. He can come across as extremely arrogant (though that is often the case with top coaches). He has the potential to be a great head coach, but to do so he needs a to learn to relinquish duties in areas where he isn't strong (hire a good offensive coordinator maybe) and become more of a CEO than a division head.
Oh, and I thought he made himself look very bad in how the exit went down - from the "not gonna discuss out" to the comments at his first ATM presser. He was treated quite well in Tally, and pretty much gave everyone there a big FU instead of a big Thank You.

For as much as he kicked our asses, sadgator oddly never really had the distain for Jimbo that he did for Bobby. It all started
with that God-damned beach house and Mus. Jimbo always seemed like a good dude. Everybody also knew that he has a small penis given the way the whole Candi thing went down, so he was kind of a sympathetic and likeable fellow from that angle too. Shitting on FSU on his the way out the door also endeared him to sadgator.

sadgator hopes Taggart is a bit of an asshole so sadgator can develop some genuine negative feelings toward him. It would be healthy for both parties.

It was fun to watch Jimbo taking a dump on FSU. It is also fun to watch the moron fans contort reason and logic why Taggart is going to be an upgrade. Watching his PC? FSU is in for some pain.

For all Jimbo's faults, and he has many, he is light years above Taggart.

McElwain or Zook if we had to take one back? Zook,
line and sinker all day.

You watched Tags PC? Pretty cool. I didn't tune into Mullen's.

Jimbo is and was a great coach. He burned out at FSU. His message got stale. He obviously didn't believe he could salvage what he built. He didn't want to be our coach anymore. He's gone. We didn't fire him to hire Tag.

Totally disagree. Zook loaded the cupboard despite being a dip****. Mac was just a dip****. Meyer took over and immediately became a force with that talent, Leak and company were solid. Who does Mullen have going for him this coming season? Franks and company? He has a couple years of work to do before getting really competitive. And news is UF has traded a master recruiter in Jimbo for another master recruiter in Taggert. Richt joining Miami last year is a big thorn in the side as well. Mullen has his hands full with rebuilding and competing with many great recruiters in the SE.

No way. That sumbitch ain’t ever gonna get (or want) a P5 job again. He’ll wind up at Montana State or Idaho and have a happy care-free life forever/
Have you ever been to Bozeman? Beautiful area, very nice small college town. One of my favorite places anywhere. With the money UF is paying him, McElwain could coach at Montana St., live like a king and be in God's country for the rest of his life. I'd jump all over that job offer!

MJ 2010 "FSU will never win anything with Jimbo"

MJ 2017 "FSU will never win anything without Jimbo"
Not only do the morons contort reason and logic, they cant read and even resort to lying.

I guess they are that desperate.

So funny, they never come here to actually talk football, just to spin their talking points.

If there was honesty on their part, they could at least admit that we were right that jimbo would annually lose games he shouldn't and keep them out of contention.

Totally. You just made all the bank you need. sadgator would find an out of the way spot to hide and coach and live a fun life.

As luck would have it, sadgator will be in Bozeman in about 4 weeks from now...

And yet.....Foley hired him, pretty neat.

Weird that your opinion is the exact opposite of every.single.radio personality I've been listening to on ESPNU.

The same ones that proclaimed McElwain to be the next great Florida coach.

I get it that you guys are excited about your new coach. That is called being a fan.

But the facts suggest you have scant reason for optimism, other than normal fan enthusiasm.

That's what I meant, Zook left us in far better shape than McElwain imo. He recruited far better and didn't make nearly the amount of excuses McElwain did.

Zook actually took Illinois to a Rose Bowl after leaving here. That alone is proof he is better than McElwain at recruiting. I doubt Jim McElwain gets a call from Illinois or any other downtrodden P5 programs anytime soon. Fabricating deathreats has a weird way of alienating a fanbase.

I see a coach whose first head job was taking over an 0-12 WKU squad.
He then goes 2-10, 7-5, 7-5 and the team earns their first bowl game. They also beat Kentucky that season.
He leaves for a bigger job, back in Florida.
Takes over a team that Skip Holtz drove into the ground (8-5, 5-7, 3-9 in his three seasons). Taggart goes 2-10, 4-8, 8-5, 10-2, then takes a job at Oregon.
Things went downhill quick for Helfrich. From 13-2 in 2014 the Ducks slid to 9-4 then 4-8. They pull the trigger and hire Taggart. Taggart goes 7-5, with 4 of the losses coming while the starting QB was out with a broken clavicle.

Scant only describes the attention you’ve paid thus far to him. Do you really think dropping absolutely every shred of context and looking only at raw win loss totals is the best way to assess the man’s career to this point?
I get hoping he sucks, but it’s hard to take that away from looking at what he has done and where.

Is Taggart an upgrade?

I don’t know. He seems to have done a good job of quick repair jobs at each f his 3 head coaching jobs, but hasn’t stayed long enough to know if he can sustain things (or really even know just how good a shape they were in when he left).

We’ll know in 7 or 8 years, assuming he is here for that long.

If he matched Jimbo’s results exactly, I will be quite happy. I’d guess you guys would be perfectly if Mullen was to do accomplish exactly what Fisher did, too.
